TAH with no bowel prep?
I was worried about 1 the bowel prep and 2 the catherater. My mom had the same surgeon and the same hospital 10 years ago. She said she had neither, so I am hopeful I won't either. She had a TAH and I am having a LSH.

Only the first one (2 days ago) was almost productive. I'm getting ready to take two Ex-lax with warm tea.

This might sound gross but a little vasaline on the delicate tissues on your anus will minimize if not eliminate the burn....

TAH with no bowel prep?
I hadn't even thought of the catheter.. I had no bowel prep but, when I woke up from surgery I had a catheter, I had a tah so that maybe different for you but if its a concern you may want to ask your dr. I was a little worried about the taking out of the catheter afterwards but there was no pain when it was removed. hth

Well I got a surprise today! I have to do an enema the night before and they want a medicated douche (=iodine). I told Dr I was 'can't breathe' allergic to Iodine. I even avoid salt to stay away from it. I had a CT scan with dye and about 45 minutes later my glands looked like quail eggs and I passed out. My dr at the time was relieved I was still there. He told my mom were I to have left and been in the car, it probably would have killed me as help wouldn't have been quick enough. So my Dr rubbing a little on the back of my hand and said to see if I had any problems. Well I'm not sure I would compare 'skin' to 'delicate skin' (probably my mouth would have been a better absorbtion point). Where she put it, my hand got just a slight redness to. But I am going to ask our options. If this is 'the only option' I want a perscription for an epee pen just in case. It would suck to die from a douche.

TAH with no bowel prep?
Personally I would do a gentle vinager and water so inside is cleansed a little. Tell them what you did, and why. If they still want one, do it at the castle. Incase of reaction you have the medical attention necessary will be there. What were they going to wash you down with.
The back of you hand is not the most sensitive part of the body outside. The skin on the inner crook of your elbow is more sensetive, behind even more so. As a hairdresser, that's were we did our sensitivity testing (usually elbow). If you are super sensitive do not try testing behind ear.
Good luck!!!!

TAH with no bowel prep?
My TAH and BSO are tomorrow, and I was told the same thing . . . no bowel prep, just nothing after midnight. I don't even have to do the clear diet thing. Hmm . . . .

TAH with no bowel prep?
I just came from my pre-op and I ditto Uppity's instructions (no bowel prep, just nothing after midnight. I don't even have to do the clear diet thing).
I do plan to be "mindful" of my food intake the days leading up to surgery.

LOL . . . you'd think they could spring for a Fleet enema.

TAH with no bowel prep?
There are 3 main reasons to do a bowel prep:
First, it gets rid of some volume in the abdomen, making surgery easier to perform. Secondly, in case the surgeon accidentally nicks a bowel, nobody wants the added risk of fecal matter loose in the abdominal cavity.....nicking is a big risk if adhesions are encountered, or the abdomen is crowded with fibroids or full bowels . Finally, there is less risk of constipation problems postop, if there is no preop fecal matter drying up in the intestines during the time the bowels are asleep (usually 24 hours after anesthetic).
Many surgeons are opting not requiring preps because they know that lay people prefer not to, and they are confident in believing they will not be having any trouble. I personally think some will change their way of thinking, the 1st time they nick somebody's bowel.
I was not required to do the prep, but did, anyway.
