Pain meds ~ when should I start cutting back?

Hello all again,
I was wondering how many of you are still taking your pain meds? I had my surgery on September 2? I was trying to fingure out when I should start cutting back, I still have some pain but not a lot of pain all the time.

Thanks for all your help.

To nickilee9-I stopped taking pain meds last week. See how you feel waiting longer between taking them and if it feels ok keep extending it. you may be able to quit but that depends on what level of discomfort you can handle. Everyone is different so go with what feels good to you.

I had the same question about pain meds. I had my surgery a week ago tomorrow. I'm still taking mine every four to five hours. I'm going to start cutting back tomorrow, as I over did it today! I think your body knows when you need to cut back, today is the first day I felt really close to normal. What are you taking Nickilee-9?

Thank you all for all the help. I forgot what this feels like. I have had 2 C-sections and little things I remember what it was like recovering. I forgot how bad it hurts to have a BM, when you laugh or cough and even yelling makes my belly hurt. The pain pills on I'm on is Morton and Lowertab(spelled it wrong) I'm almost of them. I'm trying to decide if I need to call the dr and get more, or just tough it out.

I'm not sure what type of hysterectomy you had. If you have a large abdominal incision, it's going to require more time to decrease pain. If you have small separate incisions, you can probably stop taking the Lortabs and just stick to Motrin (600 mg Ibuprofen) or even smaller amounts of Advil (200 mg Ibruprofen per capsule), as needed. Always take Motrin and Advil with food because they're hard on the stomach lining.

Lortabs have a narcotic in them so the sooner you stop them, the better. They're also constipating!!

Good luck.
