@ gina gibson

I don't know when I can shower or how to get out of bed.

I was allowed to shower 24 hours after surgery with mild soap and no soaking or sitting in water.

My dr was initially going to send me home with Estrogen due to having my Ovaries removed, but he didn't. Don't women usually wake up with hot flashes after surgery?

Some women do not show signs of early menopause right after surgery. The doc will most likely check up on you and during your post-op appointment you will get that prescription filled.

Can this mean that in the middle of all my suffering from this problem, I was going through Menopause too and didn't even know it? Or do the Menopause symptoms come later? These are things I wish they would have taken the time to tell me.

The other question should be asked over the phone with a charge nurse to reach out to your doctor for answers.

mpclark,

Glad you are on the other side. Hope you get to leave the castle soon! Just follow all the nurse directions and it will happen.

To all, don’t forget to these are your main activities for the next couple of weeks. It is very important to be gentle with your body and let it heal at its own pace. Which by the way will be different for all of us.

Sister hugs,
Anndy

Ladies all, just a little info:

Showering carefully! Some use a stool just to be sure they don’t get light headed. And of course nothing in the vagina is why no soaks in the tub.

Getting out of bed Roll or skooch carefully to the edge of the bed put legs (to your knees) and feet over the side and touch floor if you can then use your arms to push up into a sitting position.

Hugs,
Anndy

I had a good day today. I just don't know how I'm going to poop. I struggle with constipation without taking any pain meds..... I'm going to ask a friend to make me some of the muffins from the "moving" recipes section.
Hope everyone is doing well!

Anytime I took a narcotic for pain, I took 2 pills of a stool softener. On top of that, I ate dehydrated prunes, apricots, coffee, and water. It hurt me a lot to push it through my system, the cramping from being constipated was agony. It took me 24 hours to finally get something moving out.

Hope that helps,

Suz,

The muffins and advice from s0ng sound like a good idea. This is a chronic problem for me also. So I took the suggested dose of stool softeners 2Xs a day for quite a while. Orange juice helps me. We are in the sweet cherry season and they sure made life easy the last few weeks. Some use smooth move tea. And then there is always plenty of water!! Which you need anyway to help your healing. Nothing like raining advice. The one and main thing to remember is NOT TO STRAIN!! This is very important right now.

Hugs,
Anndy

I just can't sleep. Went to the bathroom and noticed that my belly is huge. And firm. Much bigger than when I came home yesterday. Is this normal? I knew it would be swollen but I didn't think it would get so much bigger. I don't know who else to ask at 1am.

Youtube has a lot of videos to watch about hysterectomies, pre op and post op stories, doctor answers type of videos, other women sharing their experiences and problems with the surgery. The bloated belly is one of them that will take a few weeks to have the swelling calm down inside.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Aug 03-Aug 09,2020

Suz,

We here at HysterSisters call it a SwellyBelly and yes it can be very swollen. The extra inflammation is usually from the trauma of surgery. “Gentle walking” is the best thing to do. We suggest 5-10 minutes every hour you are awake. This doesn’t mean standing and when sitting recline so that you aren’t cutting off blood supply to the lower ab area. If you are worried about any particular area, watch for new bruising. Give a call to Dr if you do. Keep eating higher fiber foods, lots of fruit, and take stool softeners to start or keep your GI tract moving.

Hope you were able to get some sleep last night. If not don’t stress just rest and nap today. This taking care of your body is your main job for the next few weeks.

Sorry I wasn’t up late last night. I helped friends hoe in their strawberry patch yesterday and I went to bed early. BTW I used to live in St Augustine so have spent a bit of time in your neck of the woods. I do miss FL winters but not the hot summers. So advise doing that walking inside your house, not in the yard.

Anndy
