Re: my surgery has been canceled! (UPDATED: Rescheduled)

Hysterbee: I will say a prayer that the your doctors schedule your surgery soon. It is so frustrating, it feels like "Hurry up and Wait" keep me posted.

Karabear: There are multiple reasons why a dr chooses one type of surgery over another. If I could have scheduled my surgery via the DiVinci or even laproscopic, I would have jumped at it. I think for me, the biggest reason why they choose TAH vs. TVH is because I have never had any kids. For a TVH, if you have had kids, it gives them a little more room to work in, but since I never had any, I'm stuck with the TAH. Also they want to look around in there while they are in there.. check out the lymph nodes etc.

Thanks for the info. I haven't had children and have precancerous cells so I'm not sure why she is doing it that wya. She did say that I have a small uterus so maybe that's why.

Re: my surgery has been canceled! (UPDATED: Rescheduled)

The oncologist decides who is a candidate for the davinci. And they "can look around" with high definition cameras while doing the davinci...which, according to my oncologist gives him 100 times better vision that what he can see without the camera. The instruments used eliminate the slightest hand tremor that anyone would have...reduces any shaking at all.
The way my oncologist described it to me was "if they ever quit using the davinci robotic surgery, i will find another line of work.....this technology for a woman is the best I have ever seen...". My reg gyn told me he wanted me to have the davinci....and referrred me immediately. From all the questions i asked my onc/surgeon, as to whom he would NOT do the davinci on....he said he has performed the procedure on all body types...the largest being 300 lbs. The smallest a 92 lb woman.
From family doctor to reg gyn no one suggested anything but the davinci surgery..i am so thankful i was allowed to have my hysterectomy that way.
I was 58 when the surgery was done...married 32 years with one son.
No one said anything to me about having or not having children being a reason not to do the davinci.
My recovery time was terrific....little pain...walking within 5 hours of coming out of recovery. Everything taken...cervix, uterus, tubes and ovaries. My 5 little incisions are now a faded purple color....and I only have thoughts about that surgery when i get out of the shower and look at them.
It truely is a remarkable procedure, done for us women to reduce our trauma both emotionally and physically from the hysterectomy.
I am so in awe of these gyn oncologists who go on for further training in the davinci procedure in order to improve our quality of life.

Re: my surgery has been canceled! (UPDATED: Rescheduled)

Kara,
another reason my dr decided for the TAH instead of the divinci or the TVH is that my uterus is 2.5 times larger than it should be..UHG. The previous GYN didn't mention that. Also I have some large fibroids. So these and the no kids thing, are all factors that played into my dr's decision.

Unfortunately we are not all candidates for the DiVinci or TVH... if your Dr is saying TVH instead of a TAH I would go for it.. you won't have a big incision that needs to heal on top of everything else they do in there.

Good Luck.
