New and worried about further prolapse following surgery

I am scheduled for a complete hysterectomy in March. My uterus is causing me discomfort due to it's prolapsed state. I have not tried a pessary. I have had this problem for 3 years with it getting worse each year. I am 47 and my doctor recommends a total hysterectomy. I am scared to death that my other organs will prolapse later. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

New and worried about further prolapse following surgery

I'm scheduled on Feb 4 for same reason, plus cyctocele possible rectocele, posterior and anterior repair. I am only 37 and have had this problem for 2 years. I did not try a pessary either because I know it would not fix the problem, just prolong the inevitable. Because of my age, my doctor said that it is very likely I will need further repairs in 20 or so years. I'm just praying that doesn't happen. I'm not sure how much that helps. My doc also told me that how long it lasts has a lot to do with my recovery early on, and making sure to follow instructions and restrictions. Good luck

New and worried about further prolapse following surgery

I just had a TVH with A&P repairs. My doctor says that she was able to anchor things very well in nice strong ligaments. She was very surprised that things were in as good a condition as they were considering the extent of the prolapse.

I think the key to a good recovery is following the doctor's directions about weight restrictions on lifting etc.

I had an extremely easy surgery and a pain free recovery this week so far. My only trouble is severe tongue ulcers which are making eating not so much fun. I also seem to have a ton of spit to deal with.

The repairs to the rectum are not that bad. I have to sit on a donut to keep the pressure off the butt but that is improving daily. Bm's are not fun so be sure to have stool softeners handy. I had some cheese yesterday and it caused a harder time for me in that department today.

I have not had a nap today and I've been up and about most of the day. So I am calling it an early night and going to bed soon.

We had some homemade ravioli which I had made and put in the freezer. It was easy for DH to make and it was the best meal that I have had since I've been home. Try to freeze some of your favorites too. It is just so comforting to have a treat like a favorite meal.

Good luck.
