How soon after for an hour long car ride?

One of my doctors wants me come in for a checkup so he can renew my prescriptions. I was hoping to do it before my surgery as I need my meds however the first opening isn't until after my surgery. I thought I had another month until I had to been so I didn't have them on my list.

How soon is too soon for an hour car ride? I won't be driving.

I would have you surgery doctor communicate with the dr who has to give you your meds. You may be able to get the script from her and spare yourself the trip.

chrissy0611 has a great suggestion. That said, I had a two-hour ride home from the hospital three days after surgery. I put a flat pillow between the seat belt and my belly, took a Gravol (Dramamine) to deal with my usual motion sickness and everything was fine.

I have an hour ride home from the hospital when I have my surgery. That being said, check with your doctor. Maybe call the office and explain the situation to the nurses and see if they can squeeze you in sooner.

Re: How soon after for an hour long car ride?

I am in total agreement with JNK...you have to remember one hour drive there....office wait and appointment....one hour ride back home....a long day for a fresh post-op!! Surely your doc will be understanding and try to work you in before surgery. I had a 2 hour ride home the second day post op and it was a looooonnnnnggg ride!! I had all the pillows, padding, etc., but, it was still an interesting trip!! I did go back 2 weeks post op and it was fine...tiring...but ok.

Re: How soon after for an hour long car ride?

My dr didn't want me driving that long at two weeks. I had to stay with my mom to recover since I live so far away from everything

Re: How soon after for an hour long car ride?

Talked to the doctors office. They won't fit me in before. They first wanted me to come in on 12/16. I told them it was way too soon. So I am going in on the 23rd.

Thanks everyone for your replies!

Re: How soon after for an hour long car ride?

Hi, I was taking short trips a few days after surgery. At 2 weeks I road in the car 8 total hours to and from my son's college to pick him up for fall break. The hard part was getting in and out of the car for food and bathroom breaks. Try to take a car that is as level like a chair like a small SUV. Put the seat belt strap down low as close to your legs as possible and the pillow worked for me as well. Take a 15 minute trip and see how you do before the hour trip.
