After my 2nd opinion....nervous/excited?
So I've gotten my second opinion from an endometriosis specialist and after talking to him feel SO much better about having a hysterectomy. I'm actually a little excited to have it done and not deal with 3 weeks worth of symptoms every month.
I, of course, am nervous about the whole ordeal and how we'll manage afterwards with 3 young kids, but I keep thinking long term how nice it will be to live my life with less pain and not having worry about where the bathroom is whenever I go somewhere.
Did anyone else feel this way? Were you also relieved to finally know the problem and have a solution planned? It really helps that I saw a specialist....I feel so much more comfortable with everything.

Re: After my 2nd opinion....nervous/excited?
That's a very common reaction. :-) I was just talking about this; it seemed like the "surgery" was all I could think/talk/read about for the weeks leading up to it.
Just remember, this is major surgery, even if it's "noninvasive." Read the tips on how to prepare and read everything you can on your surgery, as well as other surgeries, just in case. Keep your expectations within reason; recovery from any kind of hysterectomy can be slow and long if your body is already exhausted from dealing with physical issues. Being tired is the #1 biggest issue with me. The pain resolved within a week and a half, but I'm still very very tired!
I was very relieved and terrified at the same time; I knew I had no choice because my uterus was partly necrotic and was already giving up the ghost, lol. I'd been sick for over a year, though. I'm only 4 weeks post op, and there were some days when I wondered why me, but I'm slowly seeing the light at the end of the tunnel and I know this was the best solution for me.
I'm excited for you! Don't forget to come back often and get support. Families and friends are great, but the best support you can get is from those who have been there before you!

Re: After my 2nd opinion....nervous/excited?
My surgery is going to be invasive because of the amount of work they will need to do to remove endometriosis and because a urologist will also be working on me. I'm basically expecting to be exhausted and useless for 6 weeks, but I figure I do that every 2 months anyway with my physical symptoms right now, so it is something I can handle. I'm just looking out a year from now with high hopes!

I worry about recovery time after surgery. I said something to my husband about it. He said, gee, you're down and out more weeks than not already. Which is very true.
It would be worth being laid up for a while if it meant it was going to end the chronic suffering.
I'm glad you are feeling good about your decision.

Re: After my 2nd opinion....nervous/excited?
Great attitudes! I just cautioned because so many times I see women who just get blindsided by the surgery without thinking it's going to be a long healing process later. It helps to have realistic expectations!
What did catch me off-guard was waking up in post-op in so much pain, but I still felt BETTER than I had in years! The pain was nothing I couldn't handle, I knew it would pass, but I felt clearer headed (even with morphine) than I had in so long, like some weird fog had been over me. It was the one thing that I helped on to during those first two weeks when I wasn't sure if I'd done the right thing. Being sick for so long had taken a heavy toll on me; I'd been going along thinking I was just getting old and that painful fog was the way I was going to feel for the rest of my life. I'm happy to report that four weeks post-op, I feel my real age again.
Good luck to both of you and I wish you good healing on the other side. :-)
