seen this before but cant find it now

I am have tvh or a tah on Monday the 26. I know i am not going to feel much like eating for a few days. once i start eating will be like getting over the flu and start with light type foods and things? I am just curious about this my dh is a great cook and never really understands even when i cant hold down foods with the flu why i dont eat his food. SO i just want to be prepared for this.

I found that worked best for me - lots of salads and fruit, veggies in general - fish rather than meat, but grilled chicken breasts were ok. -- I stayed away from red meat completely.

I also avoided veggies that can promote gas (the cauliflower, brusselsprouts broccoli group)....

I didn't have a big appetite at first, and even as my appetite improved I wanted to focus on keeping my bowels operating as smoothly as possible.

the lack of appetite really only lasted about 2 weeks, and then gradually picked up.

best wishes!

At first you'll probably be on clear liquids, then on light/bland foods. By the time I went home (2 days) I was on a "normal" diet. If you're having gas pains (they really hurt!) you'll want to avoid foods that trigger gas. Once you start passing gas and having B.M.'s, there shouldn't really be any problems with what you eat. Just be sure to keep things "moving". Stool softners helped me with that. I didn't have much of an appetite for the first week, although I felt great. By the second week, my appetite was normal and I now have to be careful not to overeat or eat the wrong (junk) foods, because I have the tendency to put on weight and I'm trying VERY hard not to.
