Menopause symptoms: pregnancy/child mentioned

I have been reading posts, and reading posts. I am trying to get an idea of what surgical menopause may be like.

I know everyone is different, but I wondered if this may put it into perspective a little. Has anyone that has experienced post-partum depression, and surgical menopause found the symptoms to be similar? I know when I had my son, I had a horrible time with, crying episodes, depression, and hot flashes. I just thought I would ask, I would certainly like to understand the changes, I may be facing.

Thanks for your answers.

Re: Menopause symptoms: pregnancy/child mentioned

Well, this is just my experience, and I didn't have PMDD, but it seems to me the symptoms of surgical menopause are much more physical than they are emotional. For me, if I don't use HRT, I get severe headaches, insomnia, anxiety, night sweats, a feeling that my skin is "buzzing" like an electric shock, bone pain so bad I can't walk unassisted, blurry vision and very high blood pressure. There may be more, but at the moment those are the ones I can remember from the last time I tried going to a very low dose of estrogen. I won't be doing that again any time soon!

I did also get slightly cranky, but really it wasn't too bad relative to all the physical stuff. I felt so bad that I stayed home in my recliner all day, so no one else had to deal with my crankiness anyway!

Good luck with your surgery!

s,
-Linda

Re: Menopause symptoms: pregnancy/child mentioned

It has been very smooth for me. I was a little emotional around 3 or 4 weeks and I quit my job after 6 and wondered if I did that because of crazy hormones or if it was a sane decision. Turns out I'm still happy with the decision and it may have been the sanest thing I ever did.

I will say that I have changed a lot but it's been for the better. I am calmer now and not as emotional, nervous or self-critical. I don't know how much is attributed to hormonal change and how much is just the feeling of strength I have now knowing that I survived major surgery and don't have cancer after all. Either way, life is better than ever.

I hope you have a wonderful experience and don't suffer bad menopause symptoms.

Best wishes!
