Hello all! I had my post appointment today and asked alot of the same questions everyone seems to be asking. Here is what he told me:

As far as the cramping where everything used to be goes, he said that around the 3 week point the stitches are well on their way to dissolving, now the body must take over all on its own in the newly-healed spots. This can be painful, and with the nerves reconnecting we will feel it more than we have in the last couple weeks. Add to that the fact that all the good effects of the anesthesia out of our systems. Joy.

I told him about the COLD, the crying, the hot flashes, the night sweats, the weird nightmares, insomnia, etc. He said my ovaries are in shock and this is to be expected. I asked him about HRT and he doesn't like to put his patients who kept their ovaries on it until they haven't yet kicked in for 4-6 months, as he feels it is counterproductive. Also nothing to help with sleep. Since I have HBP, reflux and allergies and take daily meds for them all, he wants me to be on LESS medication - not more. *sigh* So I guess I am just gonna have to tough it out. I picked up some Estroven and am going to see if that gives some relief.

On the up-side, my pathology reports came back completely clear. That was such a relief - I'd been concerned after some statements he made the day I was released. He said there was some endo, adeno-something (I have to look that up...) and fibroids. He poked around a little and listened to my insides (no pelvic exam this visit - that will come at the next one in 3-4 weeks - yippee.) and said that everything looks and sounds good. He said I am healing well.

Happy thoughts to all of you and I hope your reports are all good!

Bio Oil

Hi Lisa

Bio-Oil ..quote.. 'is a specialist skincare product that helps improve the appearance of scars, stretch marks and uneven skin tone. Its advanced formulation, which contains the breakthrough ingredient PurCellin Oil™, also makes it highly effective for numerous other skin concerns, including aging skin and dehydrated skin'.

I googled it for you and see it is available from the following in America:

Walgreens
CVS
Rite Aid
Selected Kmart
Duane Reade
HEB
Bi-Mart Stores
Leading Ahold Stop & Shop
Meijer
Leading Fred Meyer

Over here, it has good reports. I have eczeme and very dry skin and it has been useful for that but it has also become known for smoothing scars and making them less visible.

Hope this helps
Love

Hi everyone,
I haven't posted in awhile. I had TAH 9/12/07. Last week I was doing okay, minor aches and pains. I started feeling better and then I think I overdid it. Went to a wedding Friday night, had something for a few hours on Saturday, went to church on Sunday, and Monday I paid for it all. I was very tired, in fact came home from church and slept the rest of the day. Only occasionally take Ibuprofen for pain, but really not on schedule, just as I need it.

I have been doing a lot of walking, ever since I left the hospital. The first week at home did a lot just to get rid of the gas. The second week walked around the cul de sac and towards the end of that week overdid it.

At almost three weeks out, I noticed I am also having some cramping (like my uterus is there) and spasms on the inside. I also have noticed some bladder incontinence, and am having to wear a pantiliner, which I've never had to do. I am so frustrated about this. Have I traded one problem for another? I know it is urine leaking out because I feel like I'm in an old folks home and peed on myself. This is soooooo frustrating!

Up until now I have been doing pretty good, but this is definitely a setback at 3 weeks. Plan on asking a lot of questions at my appointment on Thursday (3 weeks).

I still get very tired if I overdo it.

I have not had a discharge except in the hospital, until now, where it is a urine leakage and nothing else.

Anybody else experiencing this urine leakage, bladder spasms when peeing, and cramping?

For those of you who haven't been able to sleep on your sides, get a body pillow. My DH got one for me the second week, and if you tuck it as close to your side, then roll over on it partway, it cushions your abdomen and I have been able to sleep on my side since week 2. It is wonderful. Hope that helps.

Best wishes to all my sisters. Be kind to yourselves. I see the dustbunnies, but just let them go!

I'm actually able to get out of the house and go somewhere! It felt so great to be able to go to church on Sunday, and esp. to see all my friends there. The stitches are healing very well, starting to itch, which is a good thing I guess.

I've been walking a lot, which is prob. 1 of the most helpful things 1 can do on the way to recovery. My gallbladder surgery has caused me a lot more problems than the hysterectomy part, I still can't eat a meal. My appetite is totally wiped out. I've lost 16 pds. My belly is still swollen though, can't wait for that to go down. Wearing reg. clothes is a little uncomfortable because of the location of incisions for gallbladder removal.

OVERALL, things are going very well. I am so glad I had the surgery and can't wait to get back into my full schedule 100%.

I also wanted to add since my sept 11 surgery I have had no bleeding, or discharge at all. The walks I take are all short ones. I did go to Wal-Mart and walked around in there too much- it wore me out for the rest of the day. The main thing is listen to your body and the signals it is sending. Stop when you need to stop!

I'm so happy to say my sex drive is back and going strong! I was VERY worried the surgery might diminish my sex drive and quality of sex relations with my husband, but thankfully all seems to be well. I'm so ready to enjoy that part of our relationship again, but I know I still have to wait, I'm just glad I don't want to wait! lol

Was anyone else worried about that aspect? Today is my 3rd week of recovery. I'm so glad to hear most of the reports have been good for everyone else. Take everything 1 day at a time and listen to your body.

Snflwr... I've taken Zoloft for the past two years for severe depression suffered after hurricane Rita and a medical emergency for my mom. I regulate my dosage myself under the advice of my PCP. Currently I take 100 mg once daily. You can safely take up to 100 mg twice daily. If you are currently taking 50 mg once daily, try 100 mg once daily. You'll know if you take too much because you'll start to feel "jittery & shaky". If you do get these feeling then try 50 mg twice a day to level out. Hope this gives you some sort of relief or at least lets you know its okay to adjust your own dosing.

Feel better.....

Zepol, I'm on antidepressant too. I've been on them and off them for years. I take a low dose and recently just increased them. I think this surgery has brought me down some. I don't like the side effects of them but it helps to get you through tough times. I feel like I hit a wall and I'm having a bit of a hard time. I hope it passes soon.

WOW -- almost 3 weeks out -- and feeling pretty good.
Did a road trip this last weekend -- was tired -- but knoew when to stop and rest.
Have follow up appointment today -- so will see what the dr says

only thing that has been an issue is the short term disability has decided that the 6 weeks the dr gave me -- could be shortened by 2 weeks -- they have a 7 day wait -- no biggee -- knew about that -- but I am not released until Oct 26 -- they decided to end benefits on Oct 18 -- so the calls are going out to the employer and the disability company. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Will post later today on dr report.

Humming Bird,

What antidepressant do you take? What type of side affects are you experiencing? I've had a few bad experiences with various ones. Just wanted to compare.

I hope your wall crumbles soon. :-)

Lynn,

I take Lexapro on and off the the last 2 years. Before that I took other kinds ( trazadone, Serzone and some that I can't remember. They had really bad effects on me). I take a very low dose 2.5mg of Lexapro. I just upped it to that. I am very very drug senitive. If I take too much of it I get really placid and don't feel anything. Like a walking dead person. When I'm off them I'm so emotional I don't cope. A small does keeps me more level but after having surgery I have it a low again. So I'm taking a bit more. My brother takes Zoloft and says it works well. Lexapro seems to have the least side effect but still has some. It's the one that works best for me. The normal dose for most people is 10mg. I hope I made some sence. Kathy

PS. I forgot to mention that Trazadone made me sleep all the time, and Serzone made me feel like I had the flu. I wouldn't recommend trying those.
