New to this site, just found it today. Had TVH w/BSO and AP repair on 11/14...no complications, no problems with urination or much pain. Went home the next day. Am surprised at how good I actually feel. Have been trying to make myself take it easy....not so easy!

Renee, they took my packing out before I was discharged....don't know why they would leave it in so long, but it's purpose is to absorb any blood. Hope you get some answers!

No migraines in a few days thank goodness. Thanksgiving was a buffet supper but was good. Got up and shopped for Black Friday because I have a 4 year old that has a birthday on Tuesday so i got her some nice gifts, but boy did I hurt the rest of the day. I went home and went to sleep about 2 till 5. Had a disappointment in my oldest daughter while she was visiting and washing her clothes at my house, I asked her if she would mind vacuuming since I am restricted from it and she flat told me no that she shouldn't still be here anyway. She is normally not that way to me so I was speechless and that is why I just went to bed. She stayed and visited with my mom a little longer. I emailed her how hurt I was. Anyway, having pain tonight and going to bed. Good night

Greetings Sisters,

I had a TVH on 11/19/07 home on Wed 11/21/07. Would have been home on Tuesday, but I had vomiting due to Percocet-which I stopped taking and asked for Tylenol. The pain AFTER surgery was actually less than what I have experienced before surgery-the pain from surgery was like cramping.

Stopped taking the Tylenol while in hospital.

Worst pain I had/was/is GAS. Walking helps greatly! Got up after each meal and when I wasn't too tired and walked--at first just in the hospital room and then made it to the hallway and even walked around the floor exploring. Met some people in the process. Don't wait for staff to "walk you"--if you have the OK to do a walk, then go forth and initiate a walk. Helped me to sleep better and through all the commotion of my roommate.

Everyone and every situation is different. I had been in a lot of pain and discomfort pre-surgery and now I feel relief.

Drink lots of water, eat lots of fruits/vegs to keep regular and take a stool softener if need be along with walking to keep the gas at bay and keep yourselves regular.

Keep positive thoughts too! Your mind helps greatly in your recovery.

I didn't have any staples for my TAH 11/16--just internal stitches and "glue". I do however have numbness in my left leg. When I asked my doctor about it after the surgery, he said it was probably from the way I was laying. It is now 1 week later & leg still numb, so I'm not too sure what the cause may be. I'm also petite and worried about weight gain--so far exactly the same weight--tummy, of course, still pooched out. I'm hoping once I become regular and the gas subsides that my tummy will look normal!! I'm still having a terrible problem with constipation!! Other than that, recovery has been good. Over all, this was not nearly as bad as I had prepared myself for. I kept both ovaries, so no menopause symptoms. I do find myself weeping for no reason.

Cupcake110 - before surgery, I was taking percocet for pain. For the first time in my life, I found myself constipated (usually, I have the opposite problem). After reading the information that came with the prescription, I stopped taking it...and within less than 2 days, things were back to normal.
Thing is, I had to deal again with the ovarian pain for which the percocet was prescribed in the first place. (Sucks that there always seems to be a trade-off.)

I don't know if the percocet was the cause of the constipation or just a coincidence...but I've had no problems in that area since.

It says in the percocet insert that it may cause constipation. I've been taken stool softeners, each time I have a BM I take another for the next time. This maybe one day or several days. I am wondering if I should stop the stool softeners? It does not have a laxative in it. I want to keep using it but wonder if it could have a long time reverse effect on my bms? What do any of you think.

Casey & Happy Duck~Thanks for your advice. I asked a friend of mine that is a nurse & she said Percoset is very constipating. So, now I just have to choose between being pain free & being constipated. I am only taking it once a day now so hopefully that will help. Boy, I never imagined it was going to be this tough. I had been through so many other surgeries & laughed at the idea that it would be 6 weeks of recovery. Well, I think the hyster is laughing at me now. It's still worth it, though!!! :-)
