Good evening, brave ladies. Returned from doc--incision good, progress ok, and home rest til day 14. Will work at home for next 4 weeks. I am 55 and post-menupausal for 2 years and no sign of need for HRT. Energy comes and goes. Shifting from vicoden to tylenol tomorrow which should help sleepiness. Live alone so following dr's orders seemed best path. Thanks for the company. Take it easy.

I had a total Vaginal hyster. on Nov 12th. All went well, no pain, came home the next morning and back to work today. Luckily the cath. was done while asleep and removed before i woke up. So as far as the surgery, it was a piece of cake. I was very lucky. I hope all of you are doing as well and wish you all good luck.

ddebord - did your employer not set you up to be on disability while you're off work? I don't know what state you live in, but in California I'm on temporary disability which pays, maybe 60% of my usual salary, then my employer pays a partial salary.

As far as steri strips I was told I can shower with them but afterwards to pat them dry then use a hair dryer to gently dry them completely. I had staples until just before leaving the hospital.

I am feeling better. No more migraines (fingers crossed) and abdominal incision is healing well although it still feels really heavy in that area. My rectocele repair is still pretty tender and so a little hard to sit down for long periods of time. Still no driving but post op is the 29th. No hot flashes or other hormone problems yet. Hope everyone else is well.

The reason I had the hysterectomy was abdominal pain and that pain seems to be gone thank goodness. I won't know what the pelvic floor repairs have accomplished for a little longer.

2 weeks post-op today and I get to drive!! I'm so excited! I'm meeting a friend at the mall and she's going to push me around in a wheelchair since too much walking still leaves me achy and sore. My first follow up appointment isn't until the 4 week post-op mark, which I thought was kind of long after looking at everyone else's posts about a 2-week follow up, but everything has been going along just fine so I'm not too worried about it.

Hi all,
Had my 2 week post op yesterday and all is well. The first week the pain was tolerable with medication. Now I just take Tylenol if I have any discomfort. I have days that I feel well and have energy, then I have those days when I need to rest. I guess I have to be patient!

Surgery Wed. Nov. 14, 2007-feeling good

I am a 46 year old woman diagnosed with one large fibroid last February. It didn't bother me until the summer and by Sept. I was miserable. I had my partial hysterectomy (uterus only) 13 days ago. The only real problem in the hospital was terrible gas pains on day 2. Then returning home, realizing I had no bowel movement by day 6, called the doctor, was told to take stool softener, lots of water, and supository. After that was taken care of, felt human again. The only real problem now is fatique, some pain, difficulty turning in sleep from side to side. But it hasn't been nearly as terrible of an experience as I was prepared for. The loss of the large fibroid (9 cm.) pressing on organs is a huge relief. I was constantly tired and in pain. Now I feel that life will return to normal and I won't be so cranky all of the time from the fibroid invading my body! Best wishes to everyone. Life does go on and it's so much better now.

Now for the long haul

Thursday will be the two week mark, I had a TAH keeping my ovaries and some of my cervix. My doctor does not want to see me until the three week mark. She said I can take off the steri strips on Thursday...they're peeling off on their own. It looks like its' healing fine. I've had an easy recovery thus far...but yesterday I started getting back pain I had attributed to the "small watermelon sized" fibroid. It's disheartening. I want to do some gentle lower back stretches but I'm afraid hurting myself on the inside. I work in the schools so I am taking off until the beginning of January. I hope everyone takes it easy-it's hard not to want to stay busy. Thanks for the company, I'm grateful for this forum!
