my progress report

HI everyone, I saw my surgeon again yesterday (4 weeks after the last cauterization session on the cuff which stopped the discharge at last after 5 weeks) and he applied some silver nitrate to a more sensitive area this time and it still stings. He said that was good as it showed I was still alive. The nurse and I looked at each other and he explained that it meant the nerve endings were!
Anyway, alive or not, he has cleared me for travel and for intimate relations. (He said there was a silicon-based gel by the way which is better for dryness if you need it as it lasts longer). Also he recommended Lepicol for sluggish bowels (movements having changed since the surgery), but I have not been able to find a pharmacy yet that stocks it.
The neck pain continues to bother me though my second session with the physio suggested that I should do some gentle stretching excercises to ensure I am not putting undue strain on the lower vertabrae of the neck. She explained that during the surgery my head would have been tilted back for the anaesthetic and held there which would be why I awoke with it. ( My retired surgeon friend joked that 'for anything above the waist we blame the anaesthetist!') I went to an exercise class for oldies and my, did it hurt afterwards. But it still comes and goes and sometimes is fine.I'm wondering if I should insist on a scan?
Mainly, though I am feeling really well and back to normal. Swimming this week was wonderful especially as topped off with a steam room session and coffee and long chat with a good friend.
Love to everyone, hope you are doing as well.

the ovaries are on overdrive!

Hi Ladies! Hope everyone is doing well. Well, it's been a little over 9 weeks since my surgery- uterus only, kept my ovaries. I must say I did not expect to get PMS almost on a regular basis. Has anyone else who kept their ovaries experienced this? Maybe they are just re-awakening. But just a little over a week ago I had classic PMS symptoms, tender breasts, etc. Now just about 8 days later I am feeling very hormonal, just not the tender breasts. I am seeing my doctor in 2 weeks so will find out if this is normal. I have just started exercising again, (treadmill) and that does seem to help a bit. But I can't sleep through the night and I'm feeling very tired.
Other than that, I must say I am feeling much better sans fibroids! Take care and best wishes to all!

lovekittycats61- I have been experiencing the same thing with my PMS symptoms and until your body gets on a regular cycle again you are probably going to experience it like this. The other thing is, your body probably skipped ovulating in December as well and that might be why you are experiencing the symptoms again so soon. I know I asked my doctor about it and he wasn't too concerned and explained that I was ovulating. I was hoping to give this part a miss also as that is where I have always had a great deal of pain. Guess I am lucky to have gotten in so soon for surgery as my Family doctor told me the gyno wouldn't do a Hysterectomy on me as I was so young. Guess the specialist knew different especially with all the problems I have experienced.

HTH.
Take Care,

Have you checked with your insurance company tyo make sure they have a provission for emergancy surgery maybe you DR submitted it wrong. I recieved a letter that said from mine that said some things were not covered however I had contacted them before hand and they told me it was so it could be the way they submitted it. I also asked for an itemized bill from the hospital only to find that they tried to charge for things I did not recieve I called and raised cane they redid my bill and I haad close to 300$$ taken off you really need to watch this in my opinion thats why our insurance is so outragious. I was very upset at the thought that they tried to take the insurance for granted and thought I would be stupid enough not to want the bill itemized. I would be sure to make all of them itemize the bills even now at 9 weeks out.
Good luck and let us know what happens

I havent posted in a while. I have been having pain in my bladder Every time i urinate ever since my surgery. Over the past week it has gotten worse to where i had to go every couple of minutes. I went to the dr and they said I have a infection in my bladder and gave me antibiotics. I dont like taking them even though i have to because everytime I take antibiotics lately i get a yeast infection even if I eat alot of yogurt. I have had 2 since surgery. I never used to get them before. Has this happened to anyone else?

I too asked and received an itemized bill. The bulk of the $27,710 was the observation room at $735 an hour x's 21 hours or $$15,435. That is nuts. The OR was $10,843 for 3.5 hrs. Considering I was charged $111 for a disposable blade I'm not surprised at the outrageous costs of the other charges. I worked in an OR and I've got to tell you, we're talking $1 for that blade. This is just plain nuts.

jconway- sorry you are having so many problems with yeast infections since the surgery. I personally haven't had that type of problem since my surgery but am wondering about your bacteria count. Will the antibotics you are on not help clear up the yeast infection as well as the bladder infection? Maybe if you call the pharmist they can help you.

ww...yeast infections are often caused by antibiotics, since they kill bacteria. Yeast infections happen when the "good" bacteria gets out of kilter from the antibiotics, allowing yeast to grow. Jconway..did you tell your dr about your tendency toward yeast inf? He may give you a prescription for a treatment in anticipation of that..I hope it clears up quickly.
