Reading this thread has made me feel very thankful. Wow, women are amazing!
On 11/12/07, I had a "supracervical hysterectomy with right salpingo oophorectomy." My left ovary was removed 14 years ago. The decision to take the rest out was made after constant cysts, several laps for endo, etc.

The surgery took place around 3:30 p.m., and I don't remember much about that evening. I slept. In the morning, I vomited a few times, then felt good ever since. By 8am, got my catheter out, showered by myself, took a short walk, and ate a little food by around 9 am.

I got to go home Wednesday after a BM. That's still pretty uncomfortable.
However, even right after the surgery I felt MUCH better than I did before I went in the hospital. Doc said the reason for so much pain (especially when walking) was that my lower intestine, uterus, bladder, ovary, and lower right peritoneum were pretty much stuck together. He described it as, "It looked like someone just poured super glue in your right side."

Funny how that all seemed like a pretty big deal to me until I read what you all have gone through. You all are remarkable. This site is certainly helping me keep my head on right! :-)

Thank you to you all.

My TAH was on 11/15. They said they did not take the ovaries (but my discharge report says TAH/BSO, so I'm going to ask for the surgical report). I'm not having post-surgical menopause, so I assume that they did not take the ovaries.
The doc originally said I'd get out of the hospital on Sat, but since I hadn't met the gas hurdle yet, they wouldn't release me then. They gave me a Ducolax suppository which worked for the gas, and then I was able to leave yesterday.
I've had no major issues so far and have been progressing in recovery. Pain is pretty minor, even with the bloating; I'm taking one of the dosage of two pills.

I didn't like staying in the hospital much at all. It seemed like once the catheter, IV, and morphine pump were removed, it was very hard for me to get the attention of a nurse. I had to call for pain pills more often than not during the day (and things like water), and I wasn't too thrilled about the communication in general. So, I was very relieved to be discharged, where I have some control over when I can take my meds and eat/drink. They did take pretty good care of me right after surgery, but after that, it didn't seem like there was much point in my being in the hospital at all (except to be near emergency support if necessary).
The one thing I did like was this station on television that shows a starry sky at night (and nature scenes during the day) and plays new agey type music--it was very relaxing.

By the way, great news, the main purpose of my surgery was to look for cancer, and they didn't find any. I was diagnosed with a lypoleiomyoma, a fatty fibroid, which apparently is uncommon and looks very questionable in an ultrasound.
The other great news, is of course, my recovery so far.

That is Great News!! Congratulations! I too went in for cancer being one of the reasons but have not heard the report as of yet I see the Doctor in 2 days for post op and can not wait he did say it looked like pretty much just fibroids polps and cysts but it still had to go out for tests to make sure. I have a positve attitude that that is all it was so I am sure it was clean and it is gone now so I am happy and no longer feeling the pain from the swelling it had been causeing me or the nausea.

I'm glad you don't have the pain or nausea anymore, and I'm glad you're doing well mentally.

I'm sure your tests will show a positive outcome. Take good care of yourself--keep up your good spirits!

Had my TAH,BSO on 11/14. They were running a bit behind but I had my happy juice. It only took her 45 minutes. Had some nausea and some pain. It was not as painful as I thought it would be. I was on a pca pump with morphine that I could push every 10 min and was getting toradol every 6 hours. Recv'd my hormone patch the same day. I was up walking that night and walked a bit the next day. The IV and catheter came out on Thursday and I took a long shower. Came home on Friday. DH went and got all the meds filled. I missed the kids so much so I suffered a little pain and they were in bed with me on Friday night while watching tv. Saturday I slept almost all day. DH made sure I had my pain medicine after my shower, evey 4 hours. I kept my meals light. Yogurt, salads and toast. Made sure I took my stool softner and milk of mag daily and drank plenty of liquids. Yesterday and today the feeling is coming back in my stomach so I am feeling more pain than before. Remember ladies, put that pillow to your tummy, stand up straight and walk. Take your time, you are not in a race.

Day 7 Post-op!!

So, today is 1 week later and I actually feel worse than I did most of last week. My incision is infected and NOT healing. My DH's mom is taking me to the doctor today and I am so scared. I just want to feel like myself more. Is anyone else having problems with their incision? I hope everyone is doing better!!! Been thinking about all of you and have been enjoying reading about your updates!!

Well Tomorrow will be one week since my TAH. I am suprised how well I actually feel. Each day is better than the one before. I still can't be on my feet for too long, but I take things slow and easy and I am getting better. I will be glad when I can where pants without an elastic band again (lounge-wear is all I have been wearing), but I have the rest of my life for that. Hope the rest of you are doing as well....

Is anyone NOT feeling better a week after? I had my surgery a week ago I was feeling a lot better but yesterday my abdomen started hurting again. It was so painful to get out of bed this morning. I nearly couldn't do it. I'm not sure what happened. I have been taking it easy, just simple trips to/from the kitchen and bathroom.

I still can't eat much. Constipation has been a huge issue so I am still mostly on mashed potatoes, broth and simple foods. Does anyone have a similar experience. How did you get off of broths, etc?

I still know this was well worth it -I'm just used to going 90 miles an hour and want to start to feel better.
