I am still moving around slowly. My abdominal incision is still fairly numb but feels like a hard swollen area. Staples were removed Saturday before I came home and now I have steristrips. I also had bladder sling, enterocele repair with mesh, rectocele repair with mesh, nip and tuck in the vagina and removal of a vaginal cyst from old scars as well as paravaginal repair. My bottom is not numb anymore from the spinal and it is more sore today but not as bad as I feared. I am using Dermaplast so that really helps the pain. Urinating is not back to normal I guess due to swelling. First BM was today, loose, did not hurt. I have been taking colace and milk of magnesium. Appetite is not back to normal, but I am eating. I am taking 3 advil every three hours for 10 days and I take a about 3 pain pills a day. I feel the most discomfort inside my pelvis, a lot was changed in there and back aches. I am still using ice packs on my abdomen and my perineum. I am suffering with migraines and have eliminated the cause being lack of my Loratab while in hospital, lack of caffeine in hospital. I am afraid it may be my Vivelle Dot. I am suppose to change it tonight, but I am not going to. I will see if I wake up with a migraine tomorrow and then change it tomorrow and see what happens. I am walking a little bit, but stayed in bed a lot today. I am about to go to bed right now. My mom is still here taking care of my little one thank goodness. Glad to hear all my fellow sisters are well.

I'm a week post op and feeling much better. I didn't have any nausea today (first day in a week) and that felt really good. I also was able to go without pain meds today! I'll take one before I go to bed or at least I'll take the motrin.

I can't believe a week ago I was in so much pain. What a difference a wk makes. I didn't think I'd feel this good this soon. Still some soreness but nothing I can't deal with (think it's coming from the incisions starting to heal).

heating pad on abdomen?

Does anyone know if it is okay to use a heating pad on the tummy after surgery?

You should be fine using a heating pad as long as the setting isn't too high and you don't leave it on for hours. The hospital had me using one days 2-3 post op.

Hey Ladies,
I had my TVH on Nov 15th doing pretty well except for being stir crazy. I am going to try to do 1/2 percocets today and see if I can tolerate the pain. I am still having problems with constipation and gas though after taking m.o.m. I have had some depression but I think that is because I am not use to being still without being able to clean or something. I am sure that I have overdone it a time or two but am trying to be careful. I miss picking up my Grandaughter who is 14 mos and she doesn't understand at all. I know things will be better on the flip side so I will pray and continue on the road to recovery. While in surgery they found endometriosis and a paratubal cyst on left tube with blue black lesion in uterus and tube. I am not sure what this means but I guess I will know more once pathology report comes back. I had a terrible nurse the night of my surgery and had to make a complaint. My morphine pump was not working and she told me that I had used my max amount and couldn't have any more for an hour. I knew that didn't sound right because it was set to be used every six minutes and if the light didn't come on I couldn't use it. Come to find out my IV had coagulated and needed to be flushed or reinserted. I laid there from 2 am to 7am with no pain med in tears. My poor husband didn't know either so we thought I just had to endure. She was a traveling nurse and I guess just didn't want to be fooled with me, anyway she was dealt with and contract not renewed. I recieved many apologies from staff and hospital. I told them that I was fine now but would hate to think some elderly patient laid there hurting because nurse to lazy to do her job. Oh well, I survived and am doing better today. Good Luck to everyone's recovery, my prayers are with you.......

Hello All,

Had my TAH Friday, 11/16. Actually recovery is going much better than I had anticipated. Dr. actually asked me if I wanted to go home Saturday, but I opted to take advantage of the attention for one more day. By far, the worst pain for me was when they first woke me up in the recovery room. Once the morphine pump was in place and I could dispense the medicine every six minutes, the pain was not much of an issue. I was expecting standing up to be the most excruciating (sp) part of the whole recovery, but I did not feel anything!! I had been moving myself quite a bit the day of the surgery from side to side, and sitting myself up in preparation to stand, don't know if this had something to do with it or not. Finally had my first BM yesterday afternoon. That was not fun. This morning woke up with quite a bit of gas pain. Walking laps across my family room a few times a day, that seems to get things moving around a bit. Maybe I'm being hormonal, but I'm very curious of my fiance's behavior since I've had this done. He always has something to do, and he is acting very different toward me. I'm trying not to let it show that it bothers me, I don't want to look like a cry-baby--anyone else having issues with their significant other? Anyway, this sight has been a blessing. I am so glad to have others to share feelings, info. with. Thanks for listening...

Good morning sisters,

I have almost made it one week. Yesterday was the frist day I even went outside. I rode to the store with my DH and then to pick up the kids. This morning I am having a slight discharge. I feel I probably did to much yesterday. I have also been coughing alot which is not helping. Last night I noticed what looks like a small pimple in my navel where the dr. went in. Also today after my shower one of my incisions started bleeding. I will watch both of them this AM and call the dr. if needed.

My DH has not been as understanding as I thought. He is usually GREAT. He is rushing my recovery wanting me to do way too much. Friday night he wants me to go to a party. My bestfriend is planning to pick me up today for a pedicure. I am looking forward to that. My girls are missing sitting in my lap and me picking them up.

I have not had any pain meds since Sunday and only one then. Hope things are going well for my others 11/14 sisters.

Hey all...hope everyone is doing better..today is better than the last couple of days. My DH is not very understanding about things and he is in the medical field. I think he think I am still superwoman. I had to sit him down yesterday and have a chat with him. I ended up cooking dinner yesterday even though my instructions are to take it easy for 2 weeks. My kids needed a home cooked meal and boy, did I hurt afterwards. I took pain medicine and still had a hard time getting comfortable. NO MORE..It is all about me now..I think I got my point across to the DH. He said he felt helpless seeling me in pain and also heard the horror stories about surgical menapause. I explained to him about the whole surgery process and the hormone patch. Gave him the same pamphlets I read and I think he now have the whole picture. I guess when our DH get scared they react different. I am still able to shower every morning..no drainage from the site but the feeling is coming back. I am still taking my pain meds every 4-6 hours and taking my stool softner twice a day. Had a small soft BM yesterday. I am walking around the house and doing my deep breathing. My stomach has went down a bunch. I am still having the headaches but can't tell what it is from. I am used to drinking tea every morning so don't know if it is from lack of caffeine, the patch, pain meds or the anesthesia. Remember ladies, our bodies are OUR temple, we need to take control and take care of her. Try not to let this life experience turn bad..if you are feeling like something is not right..call your doctor...

LSH with cystoscopy on 11/12/07 am. No surprises in surgery. Went as planned. The first day, I slept most of the day - the anesthesia knocked me out!! IV Morphine every 4 hours kept the pain down to a minimum. Anti-nausea meds were needed as well. The next day they took the morphine away and gave me percocet. Other than they weird dreams, they worked for pain! My only real trouble was in urinating. For whatever reason, the doc performed a cystoscopy and I had extreme difficulties urinating. But after 5 or 6 very arduous times, all is well. With the LSH procedure, I have had little pain(managed with Darvocet at home as needed) and I feel good one week post op. I do get very tired mid morning and mid afternoon and naps/rest is needed. This site has been most helpful and I an grateful to all.

I would be having another period on Dec. 5th, so the six weeks test would give me a window into what things will be like. I do not understand why any of us leave the castle with the patches if all of have 6 weeks stored up of hormones. It would seem that menopause would still be 6 wks off too. Thoughts?

I was not told anything about this and I am very curious myself. I was due for the witch to fly the day before my surgery she never got the chance . I was having trouble with a very large cyst on my right ovary trying to control things in the hormone area with multipule cyst an my left I have not had any trouble in the area of sweats /flashes or other effects. I have also been reading in the HRT forums and looking through the links provided. I guess I am very inquisitive when it comes to learning and want all the facts I was not sent home with any HRT either so I will ask at my post po check tomorrow.
