2 weeks later

It's been 2 weeks now and I'm finally beginning to get some energy and feeling more like my old self. The challenge is not to do things that I know would be harmful for my recovery. Had my post-op doctor's appointment and all was very well. I still get tired and need to rest, even a nap some days, but the worst is the soreness, particularly in the evening. I did notice the swelly belly going down just a tiny bit, but still need those comfy pants. Luckily, I live in an area where spring has arrived already, so getting outside to sit on the deck for a short while each day with a good book helps considerably! The sunshine and fresh air make me feel so relaxed. For being in my late fifties, recovery is coming along better than I anticipated.

I was just wondering if it might be okay to try some light exercise to stretch the back muscles (they ache a bit now and then)? I'm afraid of pulling something internally.

Wanted to respond related to taking care of the child and experiencing so much pain on right side afterward.

I agree. Take care of you. Then you can be there for him down the road.

SWEET Freedom!

I went this morning to have my staples removed - OMG I cannot tell you how much better I feel!! The area is still pink and swollen, but now I have steri strips instead of the staples that were poking and pinching me. Getting them out was not bad at all, just a little pulling and stinging. 26 of them! Anxiously awaiting my Swelly Belly Band - hopefully today - and I will be in pretty good shape.

Yesterday I was feeling really down in the dumps. SO SICK of sitting around doing nothing. My back was killing me and then I got a big chill late in the afternoon. I did drive my DS to the dentist and so DH was pretty upset with me about that. But I was able to sleep in my own bed last night and I slept 8.5 hours without waking. That put me in a much better mood.

I talked to the NP who took my staples out about the hot/cold flashes. She said it was definitely hormone related. Asked if I wanted to have HRT for it but I told her I wanted to be really conservative and see how I felt one month post-op. That visit is April 10.

So things are definitely looking up post-op day 8. Appetite is so-so, I eat but am pretty apathetic about it. Good news is I'm losing more weight.

Looking forward to a change of scenery with spending the weekend at the in-laws' for Easter. My MIL will not let me lift a finger.

Hope everyone's recovery is going well and you're feeling a little better every day.

Started doing some work from home. Feels good. I don't know if I mentioned but talked to doc's office yesterday about stairs. After reading posts, I thought I better clarify, as I have been doing lots of stairs since I got home. Uh-oh. Not good. I don't know how I failed to hear "only do this two or three times a day."

Will try to do better on this.

2 weeks and feeling good. No pain relievers needed. I got tired of being constipated and started having toasted homemade oatmeal bread dipped in olive oil with a sprinkle of garlic for breakfast, along with coffee. About 1/4 cup of olive oil. That seems to help better than the stool softeners did, or maybe my bowel is just feeling better anyway. No weight loss here in spite of smaller appetite, probably the olive oil LOL!

I've been walking around inside the house 3-4 times a day, otherwise lying down or reclined. Doctor said I could start walking outside after 2 weeks, oh, happy day! Hubby drove me into town last night to meet some people for pizza. It was a treat to get out. I took the single flight of stairs slowly because I'm usually clumsy and am afraid to trip right now! Sitting upright in a dining chair was uncomfortable after about 20 minutes, back pain, swelly belly. So I'm not ready to work in the office yet, obviously. I did have to log on to my work computer to get some insurance information and "happened" to answer a couple of emails. A couple of the guys whose wives have had hysterectomies nicely let me know I should stop working ;-)

Favorite thing lately: For the first time in years, I can sleep all night without getting up to pee. In the past, I was up & down all night. Hubby sleeps better as a result too. Maybe all those fibroids were doing more than hurting! I am glad they're gone.

I hope everyone is progressing also, -Wendy

Hi Again, I love the image of walking through Target hunched over and passing gas! PERFECT! I am Day 11 fro my TAH 3/7. Yesterday started great but then my son accidentally pulled back on the chair I was sitting in, my reflex was to jerk myself forward which left me in pain for the rest of the day. I hurt more on the right side than the left and I am more swollen on the left than the right. I am hoping today will be better after relaxing yesterday. I did try to sleep on my stomach (my favourite position) but it made me nausous, oh well. The gas still feels like a knife slicing me and BM are still cause for a whimper, but they are happening. I haven't got my appetite back which is okay I could loose a few pounds anyway. Other than that it really isn't that bad at all, kinda like a wave sometimes I'm up and sometimes I'm not. I enjoy reading these threads and often qoute your experiences to my DH so he can see I am in good company! Thanks ladies, I do see the light at the end of the tunnel, and it is looking good. Have a great day, find a good book.

Day 13...

Well I feel really good and although I can do most things by myself now I am having a blast playing the prima-donna. Making DH run all over the house to fetch me this or that - small piece of chocolate, cup of tea, my glasses (which I can't remember where I put) He is gritting his teeth and bearing it. Yesterday was almost the last straw. I see this giant 12 foot fern on sale that I simply MUST have for the living room - we buy it when the store is just about to close.- it's pitch dark and DH has the most awful time fitting it into the SUV (it's massive) - there was lumps of dirt everywhere then he has to haul in into the house - drag the pot up the stairs by himself and all the while me sitting pretty ordering him around - telling him I want it first here - then there. Think I am pushing my luck. But having way too much fun.

Glad you could appreciate target and the gas ...had 2 week post-op today went good and bad, good glad its over they changed my ert hopefully this is better, took my bandages off checked all my incisions said their healing perfect..one of a instant hair wax OMG LOL, made it thru. Bad cause had to have full exam- bejesus i screamed and hollard bloody murder cried my poor little eyes out, (since had mine done vaginally in case confused) only lasted 10 seconds..well my cuff has a leak explains extra bleeding, he couldnt repair it cause i couldnt get thru exam i guess they cortirize it. Very sad not cleared for work until after my 4 week next visit, said he wont clear for work at home either ..My case was way too bad to risk not healing correctly, he said i was hit by a mac truck..i said ok..The internal pain and irritation was just unbearable and figured it out, after my exam even tho it hurt like hell a few minutes after i felt better, reason being the vaginal atrophe is so bad that i was hurting, after exam...hence some lube i felt better, jeez felt like a car that needed a oil change. Gave me some cream for external to provide or jump start a little moisture and maybe help a little, and final results a UTI, just great..But other than that just peachy. I have to becareful as HN and DOC both explained evertime i move around the cuff and everything else moves with me which in term wont heal..So back to the pound i go, feel like i'm being put in storage..LOL keepiing my head and trying to think positive. And a little 411 to you all ty ty tty for these posts i dont know how i would get thru this without all you guys..i feel like you all have done more than my friends and family. Lots of hugges to you all and peacful recovery.

Sorry to hear about your full exam, having had a TAH I can't imagine what my vajayjay would feel like if I had it removed through there. I am feeling really comfortable, little or no pain and even the swelling is down, but I was so tired today I slept for most of it which would explain the lack of pain. If laying around wasn't so boring and such a body coma I would do it everyday. Well heres to a good night sleep and more energy tomorrow! Thanks Ladies you are the best.

Feeling great today! I actually was able to go and walk around the mall today for most of the afternoon, with the assistance of my cane to take a little stress off of it. It felt sooo nice to feel like a person again. I actually am starting to feel better than I did pre-op now, which feels absolutely amazing! I feel like I have my life back. I hope everyone is feeling as well as I am. Best wishes ladies.
