Hi I had my TAH BSO, TVT done on the 3rd and got home today (Sat 8th) HUGE wound as my doc said he had a lot of technical difficulty as it turned out my pelvis is an odd shape and that my uterus was actually set a long way back behind it....but I was asleep so I don't know.....Just not thoroughly impressed by the 20 staples that are pulling...oh well they come out on Monday.

Histology came back with nothing too sinister, which is good. I am feeling very tired and a bit queasy today but think that may have a lot to do with the antibiotics.

Anyway thanks for being here Hystersisters and thanks for the get well card! Too cute!

Day 4--good news and bad news
I had a liquid bm before I was released from the castle, but was concerned about my first regular bm. Today it came, and it was not nearly as bad as I envisioned it. I have been eating fiber and drinking juice, so it was soft (I know tmi) and there was no straining. Unfortunately, I got strangled on my coffee this morning and had a coughing fit that lasted several minutes. Even with my tummy pillow it was excruciating. It was even worse at first before I got my tummy pillow in place. Keep your pillows close by sisters. It makes a difference. All in all, my recovery is not as bad as expected. Hope you are all recovering well. My prayers are with you.

Feeling better

I'm now day 3 post-op and feeling pretty good. It probably helps that I had a lap rather than open surgery. And that I have the constitution of a mule, apparently.

My mom's been great, staying overnight with me, but going away for periods so I can get some quiet time without her bustling about. She and Dad have been bringing meals and movies over. I still have that nagging feeling that I should be the one doing the entertaining, as it's my house, but I'm stomping down on that one successfully for the most part.

I still look and feel like I'm about 5 sizes too big for my clothes, although the swelling does seem to be going down. The pain isn't too bad with 800mg Ibuprofen and Talwin to tone it down, but I still have to be careful not to push myself too much because I'm in less pain now than I was prior to the surgery. It's really hard right now, because my main computer has died and I have the parts to fix it, I'm just not allowed to move it since it weighs too darn much. (sigh)

I'm really looking forward to the pain from surgery going away and not feeling the adenomyosis pain anymore. Then I can finish the bathroom and kitchen remodelling and gardening that I've been putting off for the past 6 months or so. Of course, that'll probably have to wait until summer, when I'm further along in recovery and won't tire so easily...and when I've finished paying off all the medical bills and have some money to spend.

A positive outlook keeps the pain away! Laughter, even when it hurts, really is the best medicine. And having a place like this, with people who know what it's like, is a god-send.

Day 4 progress

So far this morning pretty good. It is a nice day today I am going to try to take a walk outside with my daughter just in front of the house to get out a little. I am going nuts in the house. I am not a homebody but it is nice to just relax. My pain is very little unless I have to cough then I pile on the pillows. Still not able to eat anything but bland food I hope this goes away but other than that I feel stronger everyday and I hope to continue this fairly easy recovery without over doing it. I hope all the other sisters are resting and doing well

Hi all my fellow sisters!! I've been home since Wed. and reading but just couldnt bring myself to write anything. I went in to have my uterus and cervix out via laproscopic, vaginal hyst. Things didn't work out as planned. The doc got in and my cervix was fused to my colon so doc had to cauterize it and leave it in, he was too afraid of nicking the colon trying to get it out. Apparently I had endo everywhere!! Ended up taking the ovaries, which I wasn't really prepared for (and am still not on HRT's for yet) and had to cut up the uterus and take out through one of the laproscopic incisions so as not to spread the endo if he were to take vaginally. I am so very grateful and glad that I am alive and do not have cancer (labs came back) but I have ahorrible attitude. Sitting here stinks, I was a runner and gym goer before surgery and my butt hurts from laying around here. I get up every once and awhile and walk around but not too long before you can tell that I better sit down or else. Finally had a bm last night but wish more had come out than did. I have a lot of pressure from gas and also I believe the need to go to the bathroom more. Having some hot flashes and just really bad attitude. I have had to take prozac in the past and I can tell that a lot of that attitude (the one before the hormones) is coming back. Had never ever wanted to see that person again so this makes me even worse. If I speak to my doc do you ladies think he will start me as soonas Monday on HRT's? We just hadn't discussed it yet but I'm starting to get antsy. How soon before one can expect to make some sort of juant out of the house? My boyfriend asked if I wanted to today but I'm scared of overdoing it. Thanks for letting me vent. Everyone else here thinks that I should be so grateful to be alive that I should'nt be whining about anything.
Hope u all have a good day!

Each day gets better

Day 4. Off pain meds, hardly any discomfort, sleep through the night except to go pee once, one more dose of antibiotics to go. Downside: easily tired, a little chest congestion (they gave me some kind of inhaling apparatus with a little bead that goes up and down, which I should maybe use more) No BM which is a little disconcerting for me as I was regular to the clock. I took a stool softener today - maybe should have started earlier. I am afraid to pop something out if I strain too much - so have not even been trying. On the whole cheerful and well. Enjoying my downtime, loving all the attention.

Wow! How can you be off pain meds so soon? I feel like im gonna die from the pain if I am late on a dose. What kind of surgery did you have? I had my TAH on Tuesday and today I thought I would wait a little on my pain meds, at least til I felt I needed them, and I got stuck on the couch because I couldn't get up without feeling I was going to split my incision. I have been up and around alot today, trying to be up as much as possible, still get really tired, but my butt hurts from sitting so much lol! I am pretty happy however that I had another BM woot, and it didn't hurt either, I have also been neglectful on my stool softener so I was expecting something horrible lol. So good to hear from all of you ladies! Hope things are good!

I had a TAH on 03-04, got home 03-06. I really haven't been in too much pain yet, mainly using Motrin to control anything. The hospital stay was uneventful other than a lousy neighbour in the bed next to me. I was discharged before my first BM and made the mistake of trying a laxative the first night home. After being awakened at 3 am to horrible cramps, never again. I have pretty bad insomnia and an extrememly emotional. Glad to be home but must admit that I am struggling with boredom. Hope everyone is feeeling well too, really glad to have a website like this to share!

Recovering

Hi everyone,
I just had my surgery on March 6th, 2008. All went well considering I was a big mess for the doctor to fix. The surgery took almost three hours due to so much scar tissue. Plus he found a tumor about the size of a small orange. He said it does not look like cancer, but they still have to do a biopsy on the tumor to be on the safe side. My pain level is now around 2. Which is GREAT! I also did not get sick from being put under. I did get the patch to put behind my ear and also something im my I.V. But needless to say my wrist swelled up twice the size of my other one and both feet and ankles swelled up. But they do not hurt at all. The doctor said this is normal for some patients. I also was able to keep both ovaries which I am greatful for. Well time to get the ice pack and rest some more. Take care everyone. Hope you are all doing well.

Hi there,

I had my LAVH on March 4th and came home on the 7th. Surgery went great and here is what I can remember!

My DH and I arrived at the hospital at 6:30am but didn't actually start to get prep'd until 8:30. The wheeled me into the OR room (hooray, I didn't have to walk in!) at 9:20. My doctor meet me in the room and after briefly talking to the anaest. doctors, I went fast too sleep. The dr. had estimated about 2 hours but I was in recovery in just over 1 hr. Was moved into my room around 11:30 and the hospital stay was okay. I was assigned to some student nurses, which was okay in the beginning, but as our floor was slow, the students kept continuously 'bothering' me, with baths and other things that I didn't think needed to be done. Finally, I spoke to the R.N and she agreed that I should be resting and the students backed off a bit. The nurses were super and very supportive.

I kept both ovaries and had my uterus and cervix removed. I am having a little difficulty with BM and will post a new thread for some advice on this.

I can't believe this is over and it will only get better from here. Hope all my other March 4th sisters and recovery nicely as well.
