I had several coughing spells yesterday, and am quite tender today. Other than that I am doing very well. My online class starts today. I will be doing that on my laptop reclined in bed, so I do feel up to it. I hope I am not over reaching.

Greetings,

Just read over most of the posts. You are inspiring. Seems like most everyone has a very positive attitude about moving forward, even if the castle activities were not the most pleasant.

Had my surgery March 6. TAH with ovaries removed as well.

I put on an estrogen patch the day after surgery, and so far, I don't seem to be experiencing typical menopause symptoms.

My biggest recovery issue to date is fatigue and probably a certain restlessness (that seems to be subsiding as I get off pain meds).

I truly hate being in the hospital, and marvel at those of you who describe positive (or at least, not-negative) experiences there. My major issues are: noisy roommates, post op nausea, having an IV, having a cath (had mine for two days), having health care staff in and out at all hours of day and night. I'm thinking most of you must have had most of these experiences, and that I probably have less tolerance for discomfort. Or perhaps you didn't, and if not, what a blessing!

Ok, enough of that! No cancer, which makes me very happy! Great to be home. Very supportive family and I appreciate that. And here I am sending e-mails the day after I'm back, and I guess I didn't know it would be this functional already!

I'm so glad you are all there. You are an inspiration.

Hi Ladies, LAVH BSO, March 4th. Im so glad to be able to read all of your stories, thank you for sharing. I went in 6:00 am in surgery by 7:30, went very fast. I was so relieved to wake up and see someone I love. I was so worried about this surgery, what a relief it is over. I went home the next morning, not because I was ready by any means, they were removing my cathater and morphine drip as I was getting dressed to leave, but I am diabetic and felt like they just werent sure what to do with me. The checkedmy sugar levels at 4:00 in the morning I was low, so the nurse brought me a little juice 4oz. and I did not see anyone again for 3 hours I had to ask them to check it again. I was still low so they brought me another juice. Then a few hours later brought me breakfast with no insulin, so when my dr came in and said I was doing pretty good I bolted. Ahhh glad to be home and a few days and BM's under my belt....if you all know what I mean, it took three days, and was about the most painful of all of this, I told my Dh I gave birth to twins(I know TMI) anyhow it does get better, still discomfort with urinating, and have to get up at least once a night to go. Im feeling pretty good , just boredom setting in, and Im awaiting my first hot flash, yikes, I have not had any symptoms so far, I am waiting to start HRT to see how I do. At 38 menopause was not at all on my mind. take care, big hugs to you all!

Hello fellow sisters! Day 6 post op. Today I felt pretty good. I noticed not as much gas as the past several days I hope this continues.. I love to sleep on my stomach and that is the most problem I am having at night trying not to flip on my tummy which I did so much preop.
Hope everyone is taking good care of themselves and lots of hugs to all!

Hey girls! Today was a REALLY great day! Hooray! I felt great today, yesterday was one of my hardest since I got home, but when I woke up today it was totally different. I was able to walk a little bit without any pain at all sometimes. That is definitely exciting to me, considering prior to my surgery I couldn't even walk without pain lol. Woot! Also, my doc called today and she said that she got my pathology reports back and they were all benign with healthy tissue!! Although there was wayyyy too much tissue, at least it was healthy right? Haha! So yah I am hoping that tomorrow will be even better, or at least similar to today! I also hope that all of you are feeling well, and recovering nicely. I'm sooo happy right now, I think I forgot how it feels to not have pain. Even if it was just short instances of being pain-free today, I can't believe that I have lived the way that I was for so long. Now, I feel so excited that I have a possibility of being pain free after such a long time of misery! Yay! Thanks ladies!

Day 7

Yea, I've made it to one week! I got to get my staples out today. Thank You! They were starting to hurt. I have a huge amount of terry strips(sp) now. The scar looks awful. Oh well. I was also up & walking to much today. After my Dr. apt. I went to eat lunch at a restaurant & grab some stuff at Hobby Lobby and a Dr. apt. for my 12 your old. I'm paying for it tonight. I hurt... I'm still having problems with gas & BM's. I'm taking stuff for it but it's slow working. Anyone have any idea's? Is anyone having "hot flashes" at night? My Dr. advised me that's what I've been having over the past few nights. I will adjust my hormone pill when I see my GYN in 2 weeks. Anyway, I get really sweaty on & off all night. My t-shirt is wet by morning. I'm not having any "attitude" problems. lol I'm quite nice. lol Hope everyone has a good night sleep...

Day 6

It's hard to believe it's only been 6 days. It feels like much longer. Must be because of all the naps, breaking each day into several more.

One of my incisions (lap) has been giving me real trouble lately, mostly because the pollen is a'flyin' and those surprise sneezes are just about bringing me to my kneezes.

I have to admit that I'm really grateful that I was able to have LSH rather than abdominal. I don't "do nothing strenuous" well. And I really prefer being worn out physically and mentally at the end of the day so I can sleep. I haven't been managing that much and, so, my sleep cycle has been thoroughly disrupted. I'm used to getting to bed at 9:30pm and waking at 4:30am as a high school teacher. At the moment, I can't get to sleep until around midnight due to my mind still going 60 mph and not being really tired or able to get really comfortable.

I'm pretty much off the pain meds and feeling much better from not having to take narcotics several times a day, which I was doing in the months leading up to surgery. The doctor told me I could drive once I got off the pain meds and I have reached the point where I can drive short distances, like to my parents' house about 2 miles away, but I probably won't do much more until I see the doctor next week. Of course, I was driving to work on narcotics prior to the surgery so I wonder if she was being a touch facetious.

I really hope all you other princesses are getting on top of your pain and frustration. I remember my pain management specialist telling me several years ago that I was given a perfect chance to learn to age gracefully because I was discovering physical limitations and learning how to ask for help. It helped me wrap my mind around what's going to happen when I get old and really do need help. This is just more practice in being gracious.

Hey guys! 4 days post-op for me and I'm actually wearing regular clothes, not my jammies or sweats. I'm not going anywhere. Just wanted to feel a bit normal. I even put perfume on. lol Mind games, right? :-)

Post op bm's were hard until I used an enema two days ago (only used 1/4 of the bottle and it was enough to get me going). I also cut out much of the heavy protein (red meats) and keeping carbs to a minimum. Eating a lot of grains, fruits and veggies and drinking green tea. This has made a huge difference in clearing my left over gas and I'm stabilizing. I up but not really doing anything. I'm laying down in a while as laying flat helps my body rest a lot better than sitting on the couch. Not sure why but hey, it works. I'm also wearing supporting underwear and it holds everything together, even though I didn't have an abdominal incision. The extra support feels good though I don't sleep with it.

I'm glad things are improving!!! Sending good karma your way ...

I was planning on a LAVH on 3/5 but ended up having a TAH and only retaining one ovary. So, though I came out disappointed, I felt relief it was done. Got wicked sick my first day after surgery, vomiting, pain, etc... which made my overall stay in the hospital 5 days but worth the wait to come home. I'm much more comfortable at home but it is hard sitting still. Very harder still to do nothing or actually have the energy to do nothing. Doing small walkabouts, showers, dinners at the table with family, but also bored stiff.
