Totally Overhwhelmed

I feel totally lost and overwhelmed. I had most of my menopause symptoms back in my late 40's. Had gotten over all the night sweat stuff etc, then had some bad heavy periods. Had a thermal ablation..wha-la. Done. THat was last Sept 2010. No more symptoms, no more bleeding. YEA!!! Thought I was home free. In Aug I started having cramps again, then some spotting. Still cramps everyday and it seems now I have a irritating fibroid and a hysterectomy on Oct 7. I am so confused about where I am at in menopause. I thought I was done and now I wonder if all the craziness will start again ???? I did try HRT last winter for fatigue, etc and it made me that crazy PMS woman again so I gave it up. No thank you. My kids don't miss Ms Irrational one bit. And I don't miss feeling like that. So the HRT is not an option for me. When they take all my "parts out" what the heck is going to happen to me ?

Re: Totally Overhwhelmed

You may have some symptoms especially if the ovaries are removed. The ovaries can fail not long after the uterus is removed if you keep them, sometimes within a year or two.
I had my uterus and ovaries removed in '03 and still have some symptoms occasionally 8 years later, but they are very mild warm flushes. I am not sure we are ever through with it, some of us have symptoms for many years. My mother in law who is 80 still has hot flashes sometimes.

I used the patch for several years when the hot flashes were absolutely intense and I could not sleep or have a life. I am not on anything now the last 2 years.
You may be able to manage without anything. If you have symptoms that are bad, your doctor can prescribe non hormonal medication like Effexor.

I would read and research what the alternatives are to hormones and talk to the doctor about them.

Best wishes on your upcoming surgery.
