Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Apr 12-Apr 18,2021

If your hysterectomy was between Apr 12-Apr 18,2021 this is the place to post your progress during your hysterectomy recovery.

If you have a question about your hysterectomy recovery, please start a new thread to receive answers and support for your concerns instead of including the question in your update! There is information on how to start a new thread in this link: New Here? or you can use this link: Post a New Topic in the Post-Op forum.

Post how you are doing here when you are home and well enough to sit a few minutes at your computer.

We hope you are recovering well with plenty of rest and water and a bit of walking. Don't forget to pamper the princess!

How to use the Recovery Progress Reports thread:

  • 1. This thread is for the purpose of sharing updates on your recovery as you heal from your hysterectomy.

  • 2. Generally, ONE or TWO posts on this thread per member/per day is adequate to share your daily progress and to share encouragement with your surgery week Sisters.

  • 3. Remember to start a new thread on the Post-Op message board to ask your questions.

  • 4. The Progress Report threads now begin in our special forum for all Hysterectomy Recovery Reports and will remain there for you to always find your discussion.
  • 5. Remember all the love and support you got here as a pre-op member? Now it's YOUR turn to give back to the women in the Pre-Op Hysterectomy Support forum. Extend your hand and your hugs in replies to our pre-op ladies in waiting. This will complete our circle of women helping women!
  • 6. You can also share support and experiences with post-op members in all phases of recovery in the Post-Op Hysterectomy Support forum by replying on the new threads they create.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Apr 12-Apr 18,2021

Dearest Sisters,

A warm welcome to you as you finally are on the "other side". Your new journey is just beginning and We hope the support you find here will help you navigate the road ahead a bit easier.

I am your Moderator - aka Mother Hen...and have the privilege of helping you on your way to emotional, physical and mental healing...which honestly can prove a bit challenging at times. This thread is here for you so that you may share and continue to update your own recovery with others and know that you are not alone.

We cannot emphasize enough how the healing and recovery process is different for everyone. While there are Progress Checkpoints, they must only be used as a guide. Initial recovery is between 4 to 8 weeks, but full recovery may take up to one year. I am an "official card carrying slow healer", so I have learned to be patient and listen to my own body.

Our healing must be taken seriously and cannot be rushed, so please start off by being kind to yourselves and please accept help from your family and friends and co-workers! Retire your superwoman cape temporarily to allow yourself to focus on just YOU- a unique concept for many here who are so used to be independent and helping others.

There may significant things that you may feel both emotionally and physically...running the gamut from gas pains and bloating, to emotional distress and panic. This site was a lifesaver for me so hopefully you will also come here for answers to questions as well as much needed emotional support.

Your thread is what you sisters make it as you are the sole authors for this journey unfolding. You can feel comfortable knowing no one is here to judge you and you can feel free to just vent in a safe environment.

Try not to worry about what is "Normal". You and your sisters on this thread will be going through these milestones together, so you are not alone.

Also the Post Op Forum is a great place to post questions that you might have to sisters that are further along in their recovery, who may have different perspectives and experiences to share.

Please NOW is the time to begin your healing. Rest, rest, rest and drink and eat healthy food. The Articles on this site on food and diet tips are amazing and really helped me. Just as our recoveries are different, so are our appetites and level of pain. So please try not to worry if you are experiencing something new.

We can't wait to hear from You!

Marcia❤️

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Apr 12-Apr 18,2021

Well, It’s the day after! I was so scared about being sedated but one minute I was there, the next I’m howling a little with pain! But they just kept giving me meds until the pain went down. They sent me home but I had to wear a catheter because I couldn’t pee! Check that weird experience off the list! But I was grateful for it. Went in this morning to have it removed and I’m peeing just fine now! Pain is minimal but my husband has been so good about pain management. I made a grip of bone broth so I have nourishment and hydration. I’m sticking to a very simple diet of simple soups, smoked salmon or ahi (from Trader Joe’s) red lentils for good fiber and avocados and papaya , pineapple cucumber. So trying to heal well and swiftly. It’s planting time and it’s mentally hard knowing I’ll be a little late! I wish I could post photos on here. The photos of my uterus were wild! I knew it was bad but it was weird! I had 4 -5cm fibroids. That’s what I knew about from the ultrasound up my vagina. Holy smokes I had dozens more! My uterus looks like a bazillion baby heads trying to push out of there caves! So stoked for a life free from pain, blood and pressure.

Hi Ermccluskey and welcome!

Thank you for sharing your experience so soon after surgery.

I am a certified wimp and declined seeing any photos of huge alien fibroids attacking my organs

However, I have, on occasions, advised gals whose family/partners/friends are unsupportive to give these non-believers pictures of an actual surgery. These naysayers usually faint and behave after that.

Take care and heal well.

Hi! I’m new here to the forum and am two days post-op from a TAH, still in the hospital. can say that a picture does speak a thousand words and my photo effectively hushed some family members who weren’t supportive of my decision to undergo the hysterectomy at age 39 to remove a 10cm calcified fibroid that had taken over my life for that past 5 years. I’m lucky to have a very supportive husband and extended family and look forward to connecting with some lovely people through this process.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Apr 05-Apr 11,2021

Had my robotic hysterectomy today. I'm home recovering now. The original plan was to keep 1 ovary if possible. I had a fibrod & 4cm cyst. Once DR was in there he saw stage 4 endometriosis and removed everything. Not what I anticipated but that's what's best for me. I'm feeling sore but have been able to walk around some. Extremely dry mouth & sore throat. Taking it 1 day at a time.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Apr 12-Apr 18,2021

Hi ladies!!

We did it! We’re now post op!

I just had my Davinci hysterectomy yesterday morning. Couldn’t leave the hospital until after 4:30 pm because I couldn’t pee. They sent me home with a catheter which I get to have taken out at 8:20 this morning (thank goodness) ... I had a LOT of dizziness in the hospital, which eventually subsided to being manageable.

I’m concerned about nausea and constipation, so I’m avoiding the oxycodone all together and just taking a Celebrex and 1000mg of Tylenol. I just feel sore, honestly.

Getting up to walk around has been difficult, but my blessed husband helps me and even cleans out my catheter bag for me. I don’t deserve him lol!

My pictures were interesting. She found a small fibroid on the back of my uterus, but also found endometriosis which helped solidify my decision to go through with this.

Looking forward to this recovery journey with you!

SAME. Does anyone else’s throat have this mucus stuck there and you can’t really clear it because you need to cough to do so, and it hurts your belly? No, just me? LOL

Yesterday I felt that way. The nurse made me do 3 to 4 small coughs with a pillow over my belly. I keep trying to clear my throat without coughing because yes that hurts...lol
