2019 Returning to running
Happy Sunday!
I am 17 days from my TAH and I am so interested in hearing how everyone started running again.
I was active before surgery. I ran a 50mile trail run in September and usually ran 4-6 days a week. I am feeling only mild discomfort at this point and I am off of all meds except a stool softener. My biggest issues are just tiring out quickly and this swollen belly.
My doctor totally supports my being active. I had an appointment at 10 days and was cleared to walk outside but she did not want me running until she checks my vaginal cuff at 5 weeks.
How far were you all walking at this point?
It’s pretty icy where I live so I am wanting to try the treadmill. Did anyone start on the treadmill?
And what the heck did everyone do about getting their swollen belly into clothes?
Thank you for any feedback!!!
I am excited to have found my people!!

Re: Returning to running
I am looking forward to hearing other responses on this!
I am 11 days from LAH and unfortunately still using pain meds
Sweatpants, yoga pants, oversized race t-shirts, thin half zip jackets (like the kind you can buy at marathon expos) are the most comfortable for me. They hide the belly pretty well
Would love to do an ultra someday - says the gal who gets tired doing laps around the house

Re: Returning to running
Dear fellow runners,
I am a 4-5 day a week 5k outdoors and treadmill runner and had a TAH-BSO on Dec. 21st due to a large fibroid and ovarian cysts. Needless to say I was worried how quickly I would recover to get back to running especially after reading some discouraging articles on the internet.
At my 4 week post-op appointment my doctor gave me the OK to start to run since belly & vaginal cuff was healed. That evening I did my first post-op (cautious) 5k on the treadmill. Other than sore thigh muscles the next day I felt fine and was happy to be able to run again. Now, 2 months post-op I'm almost back to my pre-op condition.
Still have a little pouch above the incision and hope in time that will disappear as well.
Good luck and speedy recovery

That’s great to hear! I am feeling ready to go. I will be 4 weeks on Thursday. I am walking up to 2.5 miles at a time. I go back to the dr on the 19th and I am hoping to get the go-ahead!
My biggest concern is how to get this swollen belly into my running tights.

2019 Returning to running
I’m 10days post Laparoscopic hysterectomy, and feeling ok walking- slowly. How did you know when you were ready to start running again? I know I’m hugely de-conditioned, because the issues I had that led to the hysterectomy had severely impacted my life and training. My post op review isn’t until 6 weeks.
Today I walked (waddled?) 2km, which I will do each school day now picking kids up.
I thought that I’d wait until after the bleeding I’m told to expect around the 2 week mark that will mean my stitches inside have healed and dissolved, and when my walk is a proper walk and gets up to a speed walking pace, start extending the distance till I get to 5km, then start adding in short bursts of jogging and see how it feels.
Was thinking about getting a pair of the SRC recovery shorts to support my tummy, has anyone found them useful? (And are they decent quality- do they pass the see-through test?)

Re: Returning to running
Has anyone felt like running too hard/long caused issues? 2 months post op I was cleared to run and exercise. Everything seemed find until a few weeks ago I noticed spotting. I'm 3 1/2 months post op and it has been happening sporadically. I also feel like I have menstrual cramps (which is of course impossible). I'm playing phone tag with nurse/dr office to discuss. In meantime I have stopped running

Re: Returning to running
Looks like I have granulated tissue. Treated right in his office with silver nitrate and hopefully when I go back in 3 weeks it is all healed. I need to get rid of this pouch. I cant stand how much weight I've gained
