3rd day post op, nasal bleeding

Hello,

I was given oxygen after my surgery, the oxygen that has the tubes that go in the nose not over. Well surgery was in wed at noon. I've had terrible nasal drainage and bleeding. My nasal passage from what I can see is inflamed. Wondering if this is normal? The nurse that attended to me in recovery was sick.

Re: 3rd day post op, nasal bleeding

I had the same problem you mentioned. The oxygen really dries the nasal passages. I am guessing that when you blow your nose there are larger than normal mucus clumps mixed with blood. If that is correct, then it sounds very much like mine. Took the better part of 3 weeks to get back to normal for me but I have allergies too.

I found that dabbing a little distilled water in my nostrils made blowing my nose more comfortable and easier. Sometimes I used a light lotion if the distilled water was not handy.

Hopefully the antibiotics you received with the surgery protected you from the nurses illness! Good Luck! A sinus infection now would be worse than normal!

Everything u wrote I'm experiencing to the "t". It looks so inflamed and larger clumps come out,I thought something was wrong. I will see if it can clear up on its own b4 I go back to the docs. Pain meds keep the pain down so wouldn't know if I developed a sinus infection. Ur response was most helpful, since we had similar situations. Thank u

Re: 3rd day post op, nasal bleeding

Blowing the nose just make the tummy more sore, since I'm only 4days out of surgery

Re: 3rd day post op, nasal bleeding

I had my surgery the day before yours and I have noticed the same thing. The oxygen dries out nasal passages like crazy. My nurse told me to place a very thin line of vasoline around the outside of each nostril and give it about a week to gain the nasal moisture back. There's also a product called Ayr Nasal Gel. I have used both in the past and the vaseline worked better than anything else. If the bleeding gets worse, call your doctor.
