Back to work???
I know I have asked about working during chemo, but my Dr. won't fully release me.
He and the nurse state that I won't be able to do it. They keep telling me that it will be too much!!
I talked them into letting me go back, but they wrote that I can only work half days. They did let me put down, that I can work the other half from home, but the nurse thinks I won't be able to do that.
My Dr. said we will do this to start, I think he only said that cuz I was complaining. He said, if after working half days I feel okay, I can go to full days.
I know some of you work full time during your chemo don't you? I guess I shouldn't complain. At least I can still get paid while only working half days right??? I will have more time to scrapbook (which I LOVE to do) so that will be good I guess.
So, I start working half days next Monday. I can hardly wait, my last day of work was Dec. 23rd before my surgery.
Wish me luck.....

Back to work???
Tammy,
I am not certain what your chemo entails. I went through chemo for breast cancer. I went through 6 rounds of CAF (Cytocin, Adriamiacin and 5 FU). It was pretty strong stuff.
I worked through chemo and felt it was the best thing I could have done. It takes your mind off of how you feel and gives you something else to focus on. It kept me more social and I didn't feel that the cancer had completely changed my life.
I would receive chemo on Fridays and would then take Monday off, but other than that I worked full time. I have a job that does not require too much physical activity and I can also work from home.
I believe that it was easier for me to move on after the treatment than those that didn't work. While you are going through chemo, you are so focused on treatment and getting better that it can be a tremendous let down when you are done. To go from being under constant medical care and proactive treatment to appointments every 3 months can be emotionally difficult. I believe that working made it easier on me.
It sounds like you have a good work environment, I would see what you feel up to.
Good luck!

Back to work???
Hi Tammy,
I didn't have a paying job before chemo but was homeschooling 2 of my 4 teens, teaching catechism, helping with youth ministry at my church. My doctors said to keep up with what ever I felt like doing give up the rest. Except for a few soccer games I was able to do evrything ad fee that doing the things I enjoyed really kept my spirits up. I delegated house cleaning to my family and they did a great job. I think you will find the pace that's right for you . Our lives are about so much mor than cancer.

Back to work???
Hi Tammy...
Before you go back to work part time I would check and see if disability still picks up the rest. You might be better off not working at all if your doctor says that you should not.
I went back to work 5 weeks after the hysterectomy and worked all thru my chemo. (taxol and carboplatin....had 6 treatments, one every three weeks)
My oncologist said that people that maintain a normal lifestyle do the best on chemo and if working was a normal lifestyle for me, so be it. I am a pre-k teacher so I do work in one of the germiest places on earth, next to a hospital.
I had my treatments on a Thursday, worked and felt good on Friday, felt like a mac truck hit me on Sat. and Sun. and fine again on Monday. This system worked best for me because I only had to take off one day every 3 weeks.
Good luck to you.
Rosalie

Back to work???
I'm due to start chemo soon. The experience that Rosalie shares in her note is one I've heard from at least six different people. I have personally canceled all work until chemo ends, as I don't yet know how it will affect me and my work is very physical in nature.
Don't shortchange your healing for work. It is not worth it. If you feel up to it, work. But if you need rest, listen to your body.

Back to work???
Tammy,
I don't know the answer to your question. I have a question for you.... How did you know when your cervical cancer came back?
Did you catch it in folloup Pap smears? Just curious because I also had stage 1B. Good luck with chemo. Jill Sue
