Underwear Dilema :D

This is probably a really silly question... I'm having surgery this Monday and I was wondering what type of underwear to pack. I'm not sure if the waist band will irritate my incision or not.

Re: Underwear Dilema :D

I had a TAH and wore no underwear under my gown while in the hospital. It would have been very uncomfortable IMO because of the incision and dressing. They did have the option of those mesh-type panties you get after giving birth but they warned they can get caught on staples/etc and didn't recommend it. So... my thoughts are--- Commando!

I'm still pretty much doing that at home because the waste band rubs wrong. LOL

Re: Underwear Dilema :D

Not a silly question at all. I don't know about anyone else, but I actually came home in the mesh panties that they give you in the hospital. I found them very comfortable lol. Once I was home I wore my granny panties because they fitted over my stomach without irritating it too much. I only had a very small amount of spotting and nothing after my 2nd day. So once I was sure that I wasn't going to have any spotting or bleeding, I didn't wear any some days. I know I know a lot ladies don't like that but it was very comfortable for me and nice just to air out. But that's just me.
I was so excited when I got to buy smaller panties once my stomach went down some. You'd have thought I was crazy if you would have been looking at me trying to pick out what I thought would be the right size, because I surely didn't need the big period panties anymore LOL

Re: Underwear Dilema :D

I wore cotton knit boxers...no panties...to much rubbing in all the wrong places...I buy mens "lounging' boxers to wear with my cami's to bed...so I just wore those for the first week.

Not a silly question at all!

Re: Underwear Dilema :D

I bought some really huge cotton "granny panties", and some large t-shirt type gowns. They were very comfy when I was in. I just threw the oversized panties away when I got home - they served their purpose, and were stained by then anyway.

Re: Underwear Dilema :D

after I was healed enough to shop I enjoyed going out and buying all new panties and then coming home and throwing away all those old ones that had been through a year of hemoragic bleeding! That was nice!

Re: Underwear Dilema :D

I have love my Hanes hipsters. High enough waist to avoid a bikini cut and low enough to not irritate incisions at the waist line. I also found them to stay in place

Re: Underwear Dilema :D

I am 9 days postop from a TAH. I had a horizontal incision with 17 staples. I loved the mesh panties at the hospital but they were bad to get hung on the staples. When I was home I was glad that I had bought one size larger granny panties that went above my belly button because the staples went up to my belly button. Loose fitting gowns are the best or some pajamas with bottoms that you can pull up high.

Re: Underwear Dilema :D

Which panties work well seems to depend a lot on the type of surgery you have and where the incisions are. I had DaVinci laparascopic surgery and all my incisions are above my hip bones. Low-cut boy shorts worked well for me. Granny panties would have bothered my incisions.

When I went home, I wore the mesh panties they gave me at the hospital.

I loved the little boy shorts the hospital gives you. I also used low rise briefs. Nothing really caught on my staples though.
