Re: New Here...Surgery Scheduled Next Tues. Oct 11- Fybroid
Hi Carolyne,
I also have a history of ovarian cysts...but I am not a candidate for HRT and I don't want to go into surgical menopause so that is why I am taking a chance on keeping my remaining ovary. Also my Mom has severe osteoporosis and I take a large dose of synthroid for thyroid disease which can suppress one's calcium so for these reasons I am choosing to keep the ovary. You're right I might end up having to have it out later...but for now I feel it's the right choice for me. I am going to ask my gyno to keep a closer eye on the ovary after this since I lost the right one to a large cyst and hope we can keep on top of it......Each case is different...I wish you and all here the best!!

Re: New Here...Surgery Scheduled Next Tues. Oct 11- Fybroid
I had a TAH on the 19th. I had a softball sized, a volleyball sized and several golf ball sized fibroids. I feel sooo much better now. My lower back pain is gone, my heartburn is gone, the pressure in my tummy is gone too. I feel so much better just knowing it is out of me. The pain is so much less than I expected! You will all do great. I was terrified before my surgery but it has been a great thing for me. Good luck to each of you!

Thanks so much RMlx2!! It so good to hear such good reports! Having TAH too and also feel like my tummy is pushed up too far and have heartburn - I was even asked if I was expecting a few weeks ago! Something is in there that shouldn't be and it's pushing other things were they shouldn't be so I too believe that I will feel better....Good to hear from you since yours was only a few weeks ago that you already feel better...thanks so much for the encouragement!

You are very welcome sammer. You will do great. I am only 2.5 weeks and can't believe how much better I feel. I do get tired and have some swelly belly but compared to before the surgery, I am doing much better. I have about a 10 inch vertical cut on me. It is tender to the touch but I can handle that. Good luck. Let us know how you do.

RMIx2 .. Thank you so much for your post and encouragement! I know I will be happy to get it out too. According to Dr. Mine in the size of a small lemon. I'm small framed so it feels very uncomfortable. When I sit it feels like I'm sitting on a ball...if that makes sense. And the pressure has is a bit worse especially during that time of the month. I'm nervous but with the Lords help I will get through this. Will be so glad to get it over with. Thanks again so much!

Good luck Carolyne72! You will feel soooo much better. I had that awful pressure too. My volleyball stuck out and looked like I was pregnant. The pressure was much worse during that time of the month like you said. I am not super tiny...but I am not overweight either so having all that in me was amazing. Other symptoms are now gone that I had no clue had anything to do with this but I don't regret having this for one minute. I am concerned and stressed about paying for it becuase our insurance stinks but I do feel better and I pray you do too.

I kept one ovary & my cervix because there were healthy & because I could. I am so glad not to have hot flashes & the like - I know have only postponed menopause but still, I feel really good. I know keeping the cervix has helped with the speedy recovery, too.
That being said, both would be gone if they weren't healthy! You'll find the right decision for you!
Good luck!

Re: New Here...Surgery Scheduled Next Tues. Oct 11- Fybroid
I can't believe I forgot to mention - no pressure on your bladder is SO amazing. I actually went 3 1/2 hours at the office, after lunch - without having to go to the restroom. I couldn't believe it!!
No bleeding & no pain either. I am so glad that my doc found the ovarian cyst that needed to be removed! Who knows how long I would have endured the uterine fibroids because I was trying to avoid surgery?!?

I'm having a TAH and also removing my overies/tubes. I am BRCA2 positive so I'm doing the overies because of that and because I keep getting cysts that tend to rupture and hurt a lot. I don't want to go through this more than once so I opted to remove it all! Good luck!
