endometrial cancer /deciding to have a baby

i am new to the site. I am 33 years old. In Jan i started to have heavy bleeding problems. My GNY sent me for an ultra sound and diag me with Adenomysis. She sent me directly to a fertillity specialist. He did some more test and foud popyls in my uteus which he said needed to be removed. I had that done Three weeks ago. I wen t back alone for my post op visit and he told me i had endometrial cancer. I do not know what stage. But he has put me on meds. He told me that if i had all the children that i wanted he would do a hyser now but snice i do not have any children he would start me on fertillity injects in Step.


HAs anyone that was diag with cancer had a child knowing that???

I don't think that i will be able to do it. I can sleep, eat or think. I can't image trying to have a child now. Nowing that i am going to have trouble the Doc said i only have 25% chance anyway.

That is a very tough situation and only you can decide, but please talk to a gyn/ oncologist who is a cancer specialist to find out what he reccomends and what the risk of pregnancy would be. If it were me, I would want the cancer removed as soon as possible, so I could be healthy. There are many children needing to be adopted . Is that an option for you.
It would be very difficult to have a child and then immediately go thru cancer treatment. What type of meds did the Dr put you on?

Adoption is diffently an option. He has put me on Megestrol 20 MG 2x a day. Which is a med that can cause birth defects. I think that the choice shuold be easy to have the hyster but a million things are going through my head. I have called gny/oncologist. He is reviewing my records and going to set up an appt.

I agree that a consult with a gyn/onc is your best bet. Find out all the possibilities, and all the risks. Then you can make an informed decision. Endometrial cancer itself can be pretty curable if it's found in an early stage and removed. But obviously there ae other issues that you are dealing with.

You'll be in my prayers. This is a difficult situation to be in, but know that you are not alone.

Women have had babies after a diagnosis of assumed early stage endometrial cancer, though I don't know if they have done it until after they have had nonsurgical treatment. To me, it sounds like trying to have a baby before treatment could put the patient at an extra risk of spreading the cancer.

I was diagnosed w/endo cancer when I was 40. I didn't show signs of polyps or adenomyosis. I have to admit that I am biased towards Megace for treatment over anything else having read the progress of other women.
Hey, at the old age of 42, I still consider having children(and woohoo I finally have a boyfriend that I consider a possibility).

I would definitely try the Megace, it can't hurt, depending on what stage you are. At later stages, the docs always recommend a hysterectomy. You have about a 75% chance of it working based on the medical stats (for stage 1, patients between 30 & 40).

Unfortunately, for me, it didn't work. I've had mentrual issues for a long time, was dx with endo ca, stage 1 and opted for the Megace. Took it 4 times a day 40mg for 4 months, had a D & C again to check and it still came up with cancer. So, I decided to get a hysterectomy. I too am young like you, I'm 34 & have no children. In June, we decided to see an adoption atty and have been placed with a child!! So, that makes this news a little easier to swallow, but it's still hard.
