What does it feel like when your staples are removed?

I go in on Monday to have my first post-op appointment. The Dr. will also be removing my staples. I am a bit apprehensive about this~what exactly does it feel like when they are removed? Is it painful? I hope not!

What does it feel like when your staples are removed?

Hi Toni - its not painful at all - they use a special staple remover tool and you don't really feel anything - after it feels a lot better because there is nothing pulling on the incision. They will put steri strips on afterwards across the incision and these come off on their own.

take care - nothing to worry about,

What does it feel like when your staples are removed?

I've had staples twice - the frist time was 7 years ago for an emergency appendectomy. Those staples were removed 14 days later. It did not hurt. I remember that 1 seemed a little stuck and so it sort of pinched, but it was a very very minor pinch.

My staples for my TAH were removed in the hospital - day 5 - and I will tell you that I never felt a thing.

I wouldn't panic. Are you cleared to drive? The reason that I ask is if you are going to be driven and you just want to take a precaution for pain - take a pain pill before you go. But - if you are driving - that is not a good idea.

What does it feel like when your staples are removed?

It wasn't painful at all for me, and it was over in just a couple of minutes. It actually felt a lot better around the incision after the staples were removed. They put steri-strips on afterwards and they stayed on for about 8-10 days or so before they started wearing off.

What does it feel like when your staples are removed?

HI
Not a problem...I was nervous too...looking at 8 inches of staples to be removed. Most came out without my feeling, some were a little pinch in the area that had blood/scab on my incision. The steri strips might get a little itchy in a few days, but they tend to come off in the shower, sometimes with a little help.
good luck

What does it feel like when your staples are removed?

They were removed 7 days post-op and I didn't feel a thing. When I stood up it felt sooooo good, that little pulling thing was gone. Some feel alittle prick, but really nothing to worry about.
Take care

What does it feel like when your staples are removed?

Thanks everyone, I feel a lot more at ease now! And to answer the driving question, my Dr. said no driving for 2 weeks, so DH will be driving.

What does it feel like when your staples are removed?

It is so funny that you asked this. I was so worried I thought I was going to cry. I wanted them out...but yet I didnt want them removed. LOL! But I felt absolutely nothing and then I looked at the doctor and he laughed so hard. Then we laughed together. He said all the pain and suffering you been through you deserve to be scared.

What does it feel like when your staples are removed?

They removed mine 3 days after surgery while I was still in the hospital. I was terrified about having them removed. I didn't feel a thing and before I knew it, they were gone and there were about 20 steri-strips in their place. Like the other sisters said, it feels better once they are gone.

What does it feel like when your staples are removed?

I wonder why some doctors remove the staples so quickly and others wait so long (like my dr.)??
