2.5 weeks post hysterectomy - Pelvic floor protection: body mechanics???

I know no pushing, no pulling, no lifting and no bearing down. I’ve been being really careful and maybe overprotective of my pelvic floor. My doctor told me there was no problem with bending, but on here ladies have recommended a grabber tool. I feel well enough to start moving more but I don’t know what does or doesn’t stress the pelvic floor muscles.
Can I:
*Sit criss cross applesauce?
*Squat down? (I did today without thinking and worried pretty bad that I shouldn’t have, to look at something on the floor with my daughter)
*Get up from a sitting position on the floor?
Get down on one or both knees?

These are all positions I’m used to.

*Is it ok to reach to get something off an upper shelf?
*Are there other positions or movements that are a no no?

Re: Pelvic floor protection: body mechanics???

Hi and good questions,

I had extensive bladder repair work, so I was told no bending, sitting with my legs crossed, lifting anything heavier than a container of milk. There was absolutely no way I could squat, sit on the floor and ever get up again, without being in pain.

Restrictions are based upon your surgery type, so if you doctor has said bending is ok, see if it causes you pain. Any activity that causes pain needs to be modified or avoided.

I’d recommend avoiding any sudden and sharp movements. Your goal is overall smooth and low impact body movements, early in recovery. The best thing to do is ask your own doctor his/her opinion on the activities you are concerned about. It’s too risky to guess as we all heal so differently.
Err on the side of caution

Here is an article I hope you find helpful until you get to chat with your own doctor:
Body Mechanics

Gave a good and safe continued recovery.

Thank you, that’s a good article. I’ll just play it safe and keep to being extra protective!
