I only have 5 more days till the surgery. The kids are at my Mom's for 3 weeks, my husband is on leave (he's a soldier) for 3 weeks, the house is clean, groceries bought, bills paid etc.... now what? I am having my surgery done at a military hospital and it's a training facility. I had 11 people in the delivery room with me with my first child!!!! So I'm used to "contributing to the education of our soldiers!!!" I don't feel stressed out in the sense of impending doom or anything. I have read and re-read the threads on what to take--unpacking and re-packing my bag!! Has anyone else had their surgery done in a military hospital? If so, any advice or hints would be great. I had 3 children and gall bladder removal all done on post so I'm not new to the system-just new to the operation! Thanks, Barb

I haven't ever been in a military hospital but wanted to send you my good wishes.

It sounds like you have everything under control I like to plan ahead and be prepared too.

I, too, have had several surgeries at a military hospital. One thing that is neat about it is you are not financing their new car, military surgeons get paid the same whether they do 2 or 200 surgeries, so they have to be necessary! Also, I find they do not discharge you as soon, so you have more supervised recovery in the beginning. I had a friend who had a TAH 3 years ago and they kept her 2 weeks!!! She was healing great, had no problems, but they did not want her to overdo it, and kept her there!

Did you have a laproscopic gall bladder removal or full incision??? If it was a full incision this surgery will be a piece of cake! You can breathe with out your lower abdomen moving, with a surgery higher up on body, you move your incision with every breath!!

good luck

I had the laproscopic. We were living in Germany at the time. I went to a German hospital for a cone biopsy and they kept me there for 4 days!! But they don't provide anything except the bed, linens and staff! So I worried about over-packing for a state side hospital! Thanks to all for the good wishes! Barb
