LSH with fibroid size greater than 6cm anyone?
Hey Pat,
My surgery went great except he tried using the scope and had to do the abdominal incision because once looking through the camera he could see my uterus was attached to my intestines and he didn't want to take any changes of this being cut with the scope its more dangerous because they have less of an area to work with...I had the very best so I am glad he wanted to be safe and not take any changes...if they nick your bladder or intestines it can be so awful and many more operations to recover. If your uterus is only 6cm he should be able to use the laproscope I am not sure I know the doctor will give you the best options. How did your appointment go? Please let me know. Also I always suggest getting a second opinion when it comes to a serious surgery. Everyone thought I had fibroids and until the specialist ordered an MRI I was then diagnosed with an enlarged uterus due to Adenomyosis so be sure to have a ultra sound first and if the doctor is good he will order a pelvic MRI so they can see "exactly" what is going on without invasive surgery. Also with the MRI it wasn't as costly as everyone said..I do have insurance the co pay was 200.00 well worth it to me I hope this helps

the best gynecologic experience of my life - DeVinci Surgical System
Hi Roxi, My uterus wasn't 6cm the fibroid was 6cm, so double the width. Here is an email i just sent out today to friends and family minus the clinic and dr info. it was the best gynocologic experience of my life and i really appreciate the doctor i chose.
I had surgery Aug 19th for what turned out to be multiple problems: 4 fibroids one imparticular that was the size of my uterus so that on ultrasound it looked like i had a bicornate uterus, a hemoragic corpus luteum, wide spread endometriosis (including the bladder, uterus and a tube), a herniated uterus, a cyst in the hernia.
After my Dr in Fbks told me what my alternatives which turned out to be only what sed Dr could do and would require 6 weeks of recovery, I frantically searched for other resources. I found a technique called the De Vinci System a robotic laprascopy and a practitioner in Anchorage that does use this technology. Actually there are 3 doctors that use it but I chose **********because of her clear concise and informative email response. I didn't meet her until a week before the surgery and immediately had excellent rapport with her.
First, everything that was supposed to be there stayed and everything else was removed through my belly button. Second, I was walking 8 hours
after the procedure and everyday since. Today is Aug 28th and I am at work (I could have come in on the 26th but people said I should rest more plus I was still bloated with water and bleeding) with 4 very small incisions on my abdomen. Sure I still have to be careful and I have twinges of healing pain, but I feel amazing right now and expect to sign up for gynastics in a month (LOL kidding).
So far so good, and hopefully anyone who chooses ********** will have at least as good an experience as I did. You don't have to have all that I had in order to have a good doctor, you just need a good doctor who will advocate for you in the first place so you get what you want.
hugs to you all,
Pat

LSH with fibroid size greater than 6cm anyone?
Pat,
Wow...I am so happy for you that things went so great and like me you found a great doctor. I had an enlarged uterus Adenyomyosis (spell) where the uterus is enlarged and mine was 10cm x9cmx7cm so my doctor tried the scope but then realized my uterus was attached to my intestines and he didn't want to take the risk and nick my intestines that could be a life threat so I awoke with four little scars and a huge scar on my belly. However, he did warn me about possibly doing it through my abdominal if there were any complications. He said my safety comes first. Now I have to go to research I've heard of the laproscope procedure but not the Di Vinci? Is this kinda the same procedure they use a tool and go through your belly button? Wow, I am glad you found what you were looking for ..did you have to travel far? I wish I would've heard about your Doctor but I think my uterus would've been a problem still and being attached to my intestines..it was causing me a lot of pain. Oh one last questioned did you have your cervix removed? If so, let me know they have excersizes for pelvic floor/muscle control...you might want this anyways. Also its good to massage the area where they inserted the scope it can cause scar tissue so look into doing some scar tissue massage. I know its more for abdominal incisions but still you might want to research this with your procedure. Hope this helps

LSH with fibroid size greater than 6cm anyone?
Hey Roxi,
The Da Vinci System is a robotic laproscopy that allows the surgeon to have 3D movement. Traditional laproscopy has much less range of motion. I didn't have to travel far, I flew down to Anchorage on a 45 minute flight. As a matter of fact, if it's available in Alaska then it has to be available in the Lower 48. There is a physicians listing on the website as well.
Check out this link on the Da Vinci website: http://www.intuitivesurgical.com/pat...gic/index.aspx
I didn't have a hysterectomy so I kept everything except all the stuff I mentioned in the previous message (3 fibroids, widespread endometriosis, herniated uterus, tubal cyst, hemorhagic corpus luteum). Three small incisions and one large one through my belly button.
Thank you for sharing in the joy of such a positive experience and for your suggestions.
