I am very scared!!!!!!!

Hello everyone. I found this site looking for information about having my hysterectomy. First of all, i am really scared/anxious. I have my pre-op appointment tomorrow and i have no idea what to ask my doctor. I know that the only way to help me with my female problem is to have a hysterectomy because my doctor has tried everything else and nothing has worked. But another part of me wants to just say NO WAY. I can't say that i am confused because i know this is something that i have to do. I guess i just need some support. I do have a husband but, he really doesn't understand what i am going through. So if anyone has any advice for me about asking some questions at my pre-op appointment and just giving me some more information about after the hysterestomy i would really appreciate it...Thanks everyone.....Linda

I am very scared!!!!!!!

Dear Linda,
I understand about being nervous. I was so nervous about my surgery that I considered cancelling. I finally called my surgeon and he gave me some medication to calm me down. It helped a lot. Most of the questions I asked at my pre-op were about what was going to be done. I hope this helped.
I just want to say I had my hysterectomy done 3 weeks ago tomorrow and I am doing great. I was so blessed to have no complications. I did have to have my ovaries taken which I was not anticipating but that just mean HRT which I had to learn about.
Best of luck,
Theresa

I am very scared!!!!!!!

Linda,
You have found a GREAT website... not only because of the information on the site (like the things to ask your doctor) but the other women. The women are VERY supportive and understanding, I've already seen that hystersisters can talk about pretty much anything to each other and that give us all a lot of comfort. Glad you are here.

I am very scared!!!!!!!

Linda,
I know exactly how you feel. I was ready to cancel my surgery too because I was so scared. But I knew I had to do this. I am 7 wks postop tomorrow and have felt great. My recovery has gone very smoothly and easily and I would do this again in a heart beat. Please let your doc know how apprehensive you are.

This site and the sisters here are fantastic. Like AnnaB said, you truly can ask absolutely anything and someone will try to help you.

Best wishes for an uneventful surgery and a smooth and easy recovery. Let us know how you do.

I am very scared!!!!!!!

There is a list of questions located with the checkpoints articles. You should take a look and see if they help at your pre-op appointment tomorrow. Take some time tonight to do some research on this site, you'll be amazed at the wealth of information available.

I am very scared!!!!!!!

Good luck tomorrow as you have your surgery! I will think of you and say a prayer when I wake up! I was scared to death also (had TAH for big fibroids and endo) and cried in pre-op, but the nurse gave me a sedative and I was actually happy when I went into the OR! Please ask for it (would like to have taken some of that home with me). The day I left the hospital I felt sore but great. Just think--no more pain, heavy periods, swelling stomach, or periods!! I would have this surgery again and again--you're just wasting your life in pain. I tried Lupron (didn't help) and determined that there is no permanent cure out there for fibroids or endo, so just have the doctor take it out. You'll be so happy you did it!!

God bless, April

I am very scared!!!!!!!

Linda:

One more positive note, I waited for 3 years before finally doing my surgery. If anyone on this site was scared it was me!! I did cancel once! I am 7 week post op and I have never felt so much better! It was a rough first 4 weeks for me mostly because of incision pain, but I've returned to work last week and I feel like a new person. Yes, I wish I would have done this much sooner! Ask anything you need to at your pre-op. It will help ease your mind.

I'm sending you my best wishes for a great recovery and take good care of yourself once your home! You will be the new princess!!
