Trying to quit smoking-- Surgery in 15 days (Kids Mentioned Breifely)

Hi sisters! My TVH is scheduled for December 17. I am trying to quit smoking. It has been 3 long days so far. I just can't understand how I found it so easy to stop when I was pregnant but not now. I have been having headaches and I am very ill. This is something I feel I need to to and also the Doc told me it would lessen my healing time. I am ok for now. I have had moments when I could eat a cigarette if I had one. The girls here at work seem to be giving me a hard time about the whole surgery thing. Maybe because it is near christmas. I ususally take the entire week after christmas so not to sure why they are acting this way. To say the least they are not making this easy. Not too many days left and I feel like I am losing it. I am so scared. My mom almost died during/after her TVH. I just want this to be over. Sorry this is kinda long. I just needed to vent.

You should be very proud of yourself for quitting cold turkey!! I know how it is about wanting to eat a cigarette and feeling ill. I have quit many times, and I am still a smoker! Ugh! It does slow down the healing process so you should have no problem healing after your surgery.

Everyone is scared, that is very normal. Everything will be fine, you'll see. I almost died after a bowel resection and was in the hosp. for a month, and I was really scared that I was going to die from my hysterectomy and it was such an easy surgery for me. No pain and I was home in three days!

Hang in there and before long, it will be behind you!
Take care!

My *magic* came with Chantix. Quitting is absolutely positively miserable. I had a MUCH easier time with Chantix, and it made it easy to not go back to it (which I usually did). I can't recommend it highly enough, it was the help I needed. It's a rx, so if you want it, your doc would have to call it in for you.

Good luck!

Hang in there with thos cigarettes! I went cold turkey nearly 7 years ago - it was my 50th birthday present to myself.

Other than my "lady" problems, I'm so much healthier.

Each and every day I took the money I would have spent on a pack of cigarettes for that day and put it away in my little secret place. Near the end of 2004 (nearly 3 years after quitting) I had enough for a down payment on my dream car.

Make yourself a goal and treat yourself to something special with all the "ciggy" money you won't be spending on the ciggies!

You go girl! You CAN do it.

Thanks all. I really feel like I am going crazy. I am ill one minute then I wann cry the next. I really want to cancel my surgery but I know I will be better off when it is over. I just wish the girl at work would make this easier. I am the newest one and I have always felt like an outcast. But I have been there 2 years and still get that feeling. I am looking this being behind me. I am trying really hard not to go buy some smokes. lol. A pack usually lasted me about 6 days but the week I am having they probly wouldnt last a day. I have faith that I can do it. (I hope )

smoking

Hi. Former smoker here. Totally understand how hard it is.

The main reason they want you to quit before a surgery is it's more of a danger to go under general as a smoker. So at least do it temporarily, think of it that way.

I had a health scare and an incorrect EKG reading. mg: By the time they found out it was okay, I had already quit for 3 weeks, so I just decided to consider it a gift and keep going. Just kept thinking of that scene with Debra Winger and her kids in Terms of Endearment. And I didn't want to ever be in that situation and know that I may have been able to prevent it.

So think of it as quitting til after and maybe you'll want to keep it going.

Take good care of you,

KT
