Re: Should I opt for mirena over hysterectomy to help my endo & adeno?

Hi all,
It was great to hear all your experiences compared to my own. Well I decided to go with the mirena so that if one day I decide to go for the hysterectomy, I will at least have the mindset that I tried the alternatives first. I can't say I'm overly impressed with it yet, as I am still bleeding every day, however the good news is it is much much lighter. I think I had a period recently but don't know for sure. I can only go by the fact that I was in pain and the bleeding was heavy once again, then it got lighter & lighter. Now it goes from light to dark brown to spotting. It's not really spotting exactly, more like skid marks hehe! I'm sure you know what I mean. I'll be glad when it all stops. If not, then I'll be contacting my gyne again to possibly go with the hysterectomy. I have noticed that I am getting bad head aches, sometimes of migraine proportion. So I am thinking it could be due to the mirena which has progesterone in it. My gyne said that the migraines could have been caused by the pill which has both progesterone and estrogen in it. The mirena only has progresterone in it. She pointed out that it would be hard to tell which drug was causing them. But I am becoming convinced it could be the progesterone now that I am getting head aches/migraines again. I'll keep you posted on how things go.

I have suffered migraines all my life and they are definitely more frequent with the mirena. After about 3 months I also had severe mood swings and a hormonal imbalance. I broke out badly and have acne worse now than as a teen, and my breasts swelled to the point blood vessels popped making them appear bruised. The mirena has been bad news for me all around but I hope it works out better for you!

Gabster,

Don't feel bad I have migraines without any form of hormones. Started getting them in my 40's. Oh the joys of being a woman. What would it be be if I had to take them ??? I wished there were more options for us
