Looking for some Answers about Adeno & Children

I have only been recently diagnosed with Adeno (May 2007). I started having really really painful periods about 2 years ago, which prompted me to seek advise about a year ago.

I had a child 5 years ago, delivered by C-section. Which I have since found out might or might not have sped up the Adeno. After reading others posting about their experiences I have seen similarities in my situation from the age of 16. We are pretty sure my Grandma had Adeno, undiagnosed. She had a hysterectomy around 50 because of heavy painful periods, but died a few years later (totally unrelated of course), so I can't talk to her about her experiences. And my Mum is currently refusing to seek advice about herself, but I will work on her!

The questions I am currently looking for is whether anyone with Adeno, which started getting a lot worse, and has had a baby?

It maybe a silly question... but I have just had a miscarriage (only pregnant for a month and knew for a day), which was long and painful, I am I a little worried that I can't carry another child to full term. It might just be one of those things. I have a short amount of time to keep trying as I have had 2 open heart surgeries and the longer I wait the harder it is on my body. But anyway. I was just wondering, I know a couple of people with Adeno and strangely enough they all had children 3 years apart and 2 of them had 3 children all 3 years apart. Then stopped. And my Adeno kicked into overdrive 3ish years after giving birth so I am interested whether it is a magical number?

If you have anything experiences you could share with me I would be very appreciative. And I know I will be asking for help on the daunting prospect of a hysterectomy when the pain gets to much to cope with! But 2 weeks out of a month isn't too bad at this stage.

Thanks for your time.

Looking for some Answers about Adeno & Childbirth

We have many Adenomyosis Resources you may want to read through to learn as much as you can about adeno. You can also do a search on the site to find other threads regarding adeno.

I honestly do not know if there is a definite connection between childbirth and adeno or if there is a connection between c-sections and adeno. Have you asked your doctor this question? If you have concerns regarding carrying a child to term, you may want to seek out a fertility specialist or a reproductive endocrinologist; someone more specialized than a general OB/GYN.

Many best wishes to you! s

I'm new to this site and am seeking information on alternatives to a hysterectomy. But I also can tell you that 2 years I was diagnosed with adenomyosis @ 27 years old and had a pretty severe prolapse of the uterus because of it. My ob did a dnc and then a uterine suspension. My daughter is now 9 months old. So don't give up on having children because of the adenomyosis. My problem now is that the condition has returned since I didn't go back on birth control because of my nursing and it seems as though my uterous has prolapsed again. My Doc said that if it fell again pretty much it would mean a hysterectomy. I would chk with your Doc and see what he/she thinks about the suspension.

Looking for some Answers about Adeno & Childbirth

My dr says there is a connection with adeno and c-sections as well, something to do with the uterine incision. I had 2 c-sections and then started having problems with endo and had surgery for that 6 years ago. Almost 3 years I had my 3rd c-section and within a year started experiencing heavy periods, the pain started a few months later. While the dr was running tests last spring to determine if there was anything other than adeno we discovered I was pregnant again, not in the plan but he's definitely a keeper I asked about problems with my pregnancy because of the adeno and he told me that the adeno would go into "remission" while I was pregnant and that I had a bigger chance of having problems because of the fact that I had already had 3 c-sections. After the baby was born in January I experienced some pretty serious complications related to fibroids and scar tissues and had to have an emergency d&c. That took care of the problems I was having but my dr warned me that the d&c might aggravate the adeno and time would tell how long it would be before I needed the hyst.

On my very first cycle following the d&c my adeno pain was horrendous and bleeding was extremely heavy and lasted for almost 2 weeks. I had to take Vicodin for the pain. I knew I couldn't live that way and my doctor said he would schedule the hyst as soon as he could because it would only get worse.

Long story...but yes, I totally feel like the adeno gets sped up by the c-sections, but no, I wouldn't consider not trying have a child because of it - even if it was a surprise!

Good luck!

Thank you so much for your reply. It is all so much to take in! You have given me hope. Granted I'm a little on the mood swinging side, and only possibly overreacting, from the miscarriage last week, hormones are evil things.

The answers I get from my doctors in New Zealand is that Adeno is not widely researched and don't know about any correlation. But luckily I was diagnosed quickly so I will research other doctors who deals with Adeno.

Thank you once again for your help.
