To hysterectomy or not.

Ok Sisters... to hysterectomy or not.

I have recently been having some vagina pain. At the gynecologist I was told my vagina looked healthy. But my uterus seemed "big". I am scheduled for an ultrasound on Monday. And because of my history with UTI, abnormal paps, and the like. This prompted a talk with friends about fibrosis cysts, and hysterectomy.
One friend is 100% against the thought. The other had a partial two years ago, and is really touting the merits.
I am only 45, and wouldn't miss the whole menstruation show every month. Especially now when it goes from spotting to red tide, with horrible cramps, depending on the month. But, I am very naive about the whole process. I just learned that there are different levels. That I can lose the uterus and keep the cervix and ovaries. Might be a moot point; I still don't know what's really going on with my "big" uterus. But, I do know that I have to advocate for myself... So, I put it out to a group of ole crones in a FB group. They pointed me here.

Re: To hysterectomy or not.

We're glad you are here to gather information. You'll get support from women who can relate, too!

You will likely know more what's in the future for you after you get your ultrasound results. In the meantime, there is a wealth of information to explore in the Treatment Alternatives resource.

To explain the medical terms, which can be confusing, a total hysterectomy removes the entire uterus, which includes the cervix. It's a partial hysterectomy when the cervix portion of the uterus is left intact. Removal of both Fallopian tubes and both ovaries is a surgery called bilateral salpingo oophorectomy (BSO) and isn't a part of the definition of any type of hysterectomy.

Whatever decision is made, know that we will be here to support you.

Re: To hysterectomy or not.

Nobody can make that decision but you, but you need to have a diagnosis to understand if a hysterectomy is a solution, and typically, seeking a second opinion is highly recommended as other less invasive option could be considered. A hysterectomy is a major surgery and you could have more issues than the ones you have today.

Also, UTIs happen after a hysterectomy too
