Increased Risk of Heart Disease without ovaries?

I am wondering if anyone has researched increased risk of heart disease with removal of ovaries? Heart disease runs on both sides of my family and I am only 36 years old. I have read that if you have ovaries removed before age 45 you are more apt to get heart disease at an earlier age. Any input is appreciated!

Welcome home from the ! I hope you are recovering without complications. Did you keep your ovaries or not? It would "help up to help you" if, when you have the chance, you could take a minute to Edit Your Profile to include the type of hysterectomy you had and whether or not you retained your ovaries.

When I was doing my own research five years ago before my surgery I concluded, based on the scientific data and studies in available back in 2003, that having my ovaries removed did not pose a thread to me in terms of cardiac health.

What did your doctor advise in this regard? Every patient is different, based on pre-existing health issues, family history and other factors.

i have had heart problems since i was 17 and had my son now at 30 i had to have a total hysterectomy i read everything i could get my hands on about heart risks simply because i am already being consisdered for a heart transplant and i didnt want anything to make it worse as i do not want to have that procedure. everything i found made me feel as though the risk was minimal enough for me to have my ovaries taken out as i already had 3 of the 4 main complications from polycystic ovarian syndrome the only one i dont have is diabities and i dont want it i am now 3 weeks out from surgery and the only going right is my heart but if u are concerned for yours i would suggest a vist to a cardiologist before you decide to put your mind at ease
