Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Nov 01-Nov 07,2021

If your hysterectomy was between Nov 01-Nov 07,2021 this is the place to post your progress during your hysterectomy recovery.

If you have a question about your hysterectomy recovery, please start a new thread to receive answers and support for your concerns instead of including the question in your update! There is information on how to start a new thread in this link: New Here? or you can use this link: Post a New Topic in the Post-Op forum.

Post how you are doing here when you are home and well enough to sit a few minutes at your computer.

We hope you are recovering well with plenty of rest and water and a bit of walking. Don't forget to pamper the princess!

How to use the Recovery Progress Reports thread:

  • 1. This thread is for the purpose of sharing updates on your recovery as you heal from your hysterectomy.

  • 2. Generally, ONE or TWO posts on this thread per member/per day is adequate to share your daily progress and to share encouragement with your surgery week Sisters.

  • 3. Remember to start a new thread on the Post-Op message board to ask your questions.

  • 4. The Progress Report threads now begin in our special forum for all Hysterectomy Recovery Reports and will remain there for you to always find your discussion.
  • 5. Remember all the love and support you got here as a pre-op member? Now it's YOUR turn to give back to the women in the Pre-Op Hysterectomy Support forum. Extend your hand and your hugs in replies to our pre-op ladies in waiting. This will complete our circle of women helping women!
  • 6. You can also share support and experiences with post-op members in all phases of recovery in the Post-Op Hysterectomy Support forum by replying on the new threads they create.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Nov 01-Nov 07,2021

to the other side and to your Recovery Thread. Your fears of facing surgery are all over and now you can concentrate on recovery. I am (((bkfranke))) and I will joining you during your initial recovery period. This is your place to keep us up to date on how you are, meet other sisters who are recovering along with you, and find answers to the many questions that will come.

I remember the questions I had after surgery. I was too nervous to post at first but I read my Recovery Thread every day. I soon realized no one would bite me, no question was a dumb question, this was my chance to be with others who were the same place I was AND this was the place to be encouraged.

Please, donít be SHY Ė join us and let us know how you are and what your questions and concerns are. (bathroom issues, gas pains, swelly belly, insomnia ) You may not be able to ask them anywhere else but you can ask them here. We are here for you.

So sit back Princesses:
-- Get plenty of rest
-- No lifting, pushing, pulling, or bending
-- Drink lots (and pee lots)
-- Did I mention rest?
-- Walk a little each day (do not pass go; do not run, skip or dance )

Thank you so much for allowing me to join you on your journey.

Remember we are here for you. You are not alone.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Nov 01-Nov 07,2021

Thank you for the advice and encouragement! I had my surgery (laparoscopic and vaginal) yesterday morning (11-1) and am home and resting (is that really possible with a toddler, husband and mother that lives with you?!?).

Feeling both better and worse than I expected. A lot less bleeding that I was anticipating but didn't remember how bad your stomach and lady area felt after all that trauma to that area...feels a lot like how you feel after childbirth!

Trying to get in and out of bed and chairs is almost impossible without some kind of acrobatic maneuvers and I'm sure I look like a turtle trying to roll over!

Tried to lay on my side last night and BOY WAS THAT A MISTAKE!

On to day 2! Encouragement to anyone else who is going through this!

Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Nov 01-Nov 07,2021

Hello Everyone,

I am post op day one for abdominal hysterectomy with vertical incision. I had surgery yesterday Nov 1st, according to my doctor everything went well. I had a total hysterectomy leaving both my ovaries. I am still in the hospital, may get to go home tomorrow, foley is out and I ate solid foods for the first time this morning and so far did well with that. I was given a nerve block in pre OP yesterday that wore off yesterday evening so felt quite a bit of pain and nausea yesterday but today so far so good. Have been getting gabapentin, Tylenol, Toradol, and oxycodone, around the clock. The biggest issue so far is getting my potassium level up to normal so still on IV fluids and having to drink potassium powder in juice yuck! Wishing everyone speedy recovery and will try to keep posting my progress

Crystal Ö so glad youíre home and starting to recover. on resting Ö it is so very important for your recovery. Is your mother able to help you with your little one? I truly understand howhard it can be to recover with a toddler. Kids are so resilient Ö you can show him/her lots of love by gentle hugs, reading, watching a video, etc. I played little games like finding something red (colors, objects, etc).

Vaginal soreness can be rough. Ice packs can be very soothing Ö I wet pads and froze them. They were just the right size and not too cold.

Getting in and out of bed is challenging Ö we use our core muscles more than we realize. Try to use your leg muscles and arms/elbows when you when you get up. It will get easier, honest.

Iím a side sleeper to Ö I know that is difficult right now. Have you tried using lots of pillows and propping your tummy up to keep from pulling on the area. A thin pillow between your knees is also helpful.

I hope you rest well dear.

cashawnda761 Ö itís good to see you on this side. Iím so glad your surgery is over and you are doing well. Iím sorry you are dealing with low potassium dear Ö the IV fluids and the potassium drink will take care of that.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Nov 01-Nov 07,2021

Hello! Had my TLH with bilateral salpingectomy today. Kept my ovaries. Surgery was at 10am and I was home by 5pm. They had some issues getting my O2 sats up enough in recovery but I donít really remember! Apparently I was in recovery for over two hours.

Havenít had any issues with nausea. My surgeon prescribed a scopolamine patch. Mostly Iíve just been really crampy which isnít really anything new. Alternating ibuprofen with Tylenol every three hours and hoping I donít have to take my oxycodone.

Iím not having any issues peeing. My biggest issue is that Iím so hungry! I want to keep eating!

to the otherwise Jh9 Ö your surgery is over and youíre on the road to recovery. Iím so glad ibuprofen and Tylenol are covering your pain Ö you will not need to take the oxycodone. One of the things that will help is to be sure to take your meds on time.

on no peeing issues. How is your hunger today dear? Most us the time the issue is not being able to eat much or not being hungry. I hope it levels out for you soon.

as you continue to recover.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Nov 01-Nov 07,2021

Thank you so much! Iíve been alternating the Tylenol and ibuprofen every 3 hours and it seems to be working well. Iíll be very happy if I can avoid the oxycodone. Iíve still been pretty hungry today which is bizarre. Iíd much rather be hungry though than nauseous and unable to keep things down. I also have not been very tired. I am forcing myself to lay down and rest but I know I also have to get up and move around. Trying not to over do it.

jh9 You are very welcome dear Ö Iím so glad the ibuprofen and Tylenol are working well for you. You are so right Ö being hungry is much better than the nausea. on making yourself rest. Itís so important to drink lots, rest lots and walk around every hour or so. Try to listen to your body and rest when it tells you to.

I hope today has gone well for you.
