Stomach reduction after fibroids

Hi Everyone. I am considering a hysterectomy to get rid of my enlarged and misshapen uterus which is carrying various fibroids (biggest = 10X10 cm). What I want to know is - will a hysterectomy actually reduce my protruding stomach, or does it in actual fact just stay the same? I seem to be reading posts here of people whose stomachs are actually bigger than before.
Thanks

Stomach reduction after fibroids

I think, like a lot of other stuff here, the final outcome is an individual thing........I can tell you that after my TAH/BSO (my uterus was enlarged and full of huge fibroids and I had a cyst on my left ovary, lots of endo and adeno) I had swelly belly for many months........but when that finally disappeared my belly is not exactly flat (it never was !!!) but it IS flatter than it was before my hyst.
I don't know if it might make a difference as to how your doc does the surgery.......I am assuming you would be having an incision, not a vaginal hyst. I had a vertical incision. I've never had any other abdominal surgery so can't tell you if it is different with a horizontal (bikini cut) incision, or if I am the exception to the rule.
Take care!

Ann

thanks

Thank you Ann.
I had UAE (uterine artery embolisation) for the fibroids in November last year but my stomach is still very bloated and my periods have not improved yet. The Dr did say I must wait at least 6 months but I'm getting impatient!

I would ask your doctor, because I think the answer depends on the location of the fibroid(s). It may also may a difference depending on how the surgery is done TVH/TAH (vertical or horizontal).

Most likely you'll see improvement, but you will be swollen for a while, so don't get discouraged. You won't be able to do abdominal exercise for about 6 weeks or so, and that should help after the swelling subsides.
