Gyno visit tomorrow - questions
Hello all. I went to my gyno on July 25th for prolapse issues and spotting. He took one look at me and said I needed a hysterectomy.
He's been saying this to me for about 10 years but the prolapse wasn't causing me issues (hadn't dropped as low as it is now!), so I kept putting it off.
At the time I agreed and had no idea what was involved, plus he made it sound like a piece of cake because of the Da Vinci robot.
However, I started having doubts and wanted more information so this is how I found this site. Because of my sister's ovarian cancer, he recommends a radical hysterectomy.
Now that I've read up a bit, I have a zillion questions for him. What are some of the questions you asked that in the long run, helped you to be more at peace with the decision, and better informed?
Would appreciate your help.

Re: Gyno visit tomorrow - questions
I read the book that was offered on this site and a few from my local library. I am having a DaVinci tomorrow. I have battled stage III endometriosis for over 10 years and really have no quality of life. I had several surgeries to help the endometriosis, but it gets worse and worse. Six months ago I was not mentally prepared to go down this road. It has been a journey, but I am at peace with this decision and it took me a while to be able to say that. Best of luck to you in your journey!!
ETA: the free book on here gives lots of "jumping off" points for your questions depending on what health condition you are having the hysterectomy for.

Re: Gyno visit tomorrow - questions
I did sign up for the booklet a couple weeks ago and still waiting on that, but this visit is a consult to ask my gyno questions about the surgery, post surgery etc. I have no idea if I could keep my cervix, whether I'll be sent home with a cathether...
Just want to know what pre-surgery questions have been asked.

Re: Gyno visit tomorrow - questions
I decided to remove my cervix because endometriosis could be located there. I will only be keeping my right ovary and tube. My left ovary is always my problematic one so it will be removed tomorrow too. I think I'll have a catheter after surgery, but from what I understand it will be removed once I've shown that I can void on my own.
