I started having major bleeding in November of 2019. I saw my family doctor, who sent me for blood work and an ultrasound. Neither showed anything of concern, however he referred me to a gynecologist for a biopsy. That appointment was scheduled for late March 2020. Things got so bad in January and February that my biopsy got moved up to February 25th. On March 30th I received my diagnosis of Stage 1 Uterine Cancer. Due to COVID, they weren't sure how long it would take until I was able to be scheduled for surgery, so I was prescribed heavy duty Progesterone and got an IUD I didn't know I wanted.

I did not feel any need to get a second opinion.

I had day surgery. I was intubated during the procedure. The doctor and all the staff at the hospital were great. My surgery was at 8 am and I was released at about 6 pm that evening

I really had no pain after my surgery - more what I would call some discomfort. I didn't take any of the narcotics - just 1 Extra Strength Tylenol every 6 hours and 1 Aleve every 12 hours.

On September 9th, I received the word that I am free and clear of cancer.

My recovery was really quite easy - except for my throat from the intubation. 3 months after surgery, I am still having issues with my throat.

I don't regret my decision to have a hysterectomy. I am now cancer free.

Know your options. Understand the pros and cons. Listen to the medical professionals. And my most important piece of advice - don't ignore signals from your body.
