Driving after Surgery
You need the ability to stop short in an emergency and risk your body thrusting forward. You need to be able to withstand potholes and bumps in the road on your sore stomach.
You need to be able to sit comfortably with the seat belt - usually a pillow under it helps.
So ALL here - please ask your OWN doctor when you can drive . You’ll be shocked what a wide range there is. I was told 4 weeks, but couldn’t do it until weeks later. Other gals can drive after a week.

DAY 8!
Well! I feel great! Tired but great! I don’t know if my hormones are doing what differently or just the relief that the, I don’t know 12 fibroids are out of me. One was 9cm. That’s a fist. A lady fist but a fist! What the heck! I rest a lot. I love tea! Ice packs and bone broth. Papaya smoothies ooh! (And I eat all the stool softeners and gas x). If the doc says I can I do! I’m all for getting to the other side and being well! Incisions are closing! Swelly Belly is Swelly! It’s ginormous. I like to make my hands into a heart over my belly button and tell it how much I love it.
BUT
Oh the horror...
Brown liquid seeped out of my belly button! No odor. No itching. No redness on the skin. No temperature.
I froze! Is my guts sploodging out of my belly! Did I rupture a precious stitch?
No. I call my doctor frantically and feeling guilty like I had failed but no...I guess the body can sock away some fluids while healing and then when it needs to to, expunge it. Just a light here you go, that’ll do. Keep it clean, keep it dry. That was two days ago. No reoccurrence.
I freaked. Not gonna lie, if someone had told me that I might experience belly button seepage, I might’ve thought twice
Here’s too day tomorrow!

Is it normal for your belly to still feel numb 11 days after abdominal hysterectomy? I know the doctor said they would be giving me something to numb it for the pain so I assume that's what it is but am surprised it is lasting so long.
Another slightly odd thing is that I am feeling itchy. I think the real source of the itch is my healing navel incision (where they tried to do it laproscopically at first) and somehow the itch transfers itself to the skin above my navel. Anyone have this phenomenon?

All the areas around the incisions are itching now. That’s a sign of healing.

No idea about the driving, I just do what I'm told. ;-) I think he wanted no driving or being in a car for cautionary purposes, getting into an accident would be horrible given our condition. My post-op instructions say no driving until approved after post-op appt, which thankfully is Monday. The plan is for me to go back to work May 3rd, which is 3 weeks after my surgery. He said I could go back to work after 2, but I thought I'd take an extra week to not push it.

Ahahaha OOPS - I took my first drive day before yesterday. My instructions said after a week, so I took advantage lol.
I also am returning to work at 3 weeks on May 3. I wanted the extra week too, not necessarily because of not pushing it but because I could use the extra “vacay”
I peeled my steri strips off in the shower today, because they weren’t coming off on their own. My incisions are being held by glue and are MUCH smaller than I thought. I have also been feeling the itching, skin is super sensitive and my shirts like it irritate it
Here’s to happy healing, ladies!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Apr 12-Apr 18,2021
I had laproscopic and 2 of the 4 incisions I think I have stitches, and a couple pokey stitches are sticking out of one. They kind of snag on stuff and it's annoying... but my 3 year old is so fascinated by them and constantly asks to touch them lol.
I'm surprised 10 days after surgery how much pain I'm still in. Anyone else in like a ton of pain still? I did feel okay enough to switch from oxy to tylenol 2 days ago but by bedtime I'm in pain and worn out every night! I have a fire, smores and girls night tomorrow that I refuse to miss lol
