Hi ladies . Just wondered if anyone has had any cervical fibroids like myself ? I have read they are kind of rare . Also if anyone knows if they grow at a different rate then fibroids in other locations ?

Re: Upcoming hysterectomy 2/23: Cervical fibroids

Hi Tamf,

Welcome, glad you found us here at HysterSisters.

I don’t have any personal experience with Cervical Fibroids, my one little (hiding) fibroid among my uterus full of scar tissue and adenomyosis and endrometriosis, needless to say was the least of what was found during my surgery. I have heard here that cervical fibroids are less common than uterine fibroids and on my article search here, I was only able to find that they were briefly mentioned here as a possible type.
My Fibroids

I hope that some sisters that have experience with cervical fibroids will post here to help give you some answers.

Best wishes on your upcoming surgery day.

I didn't have any cervical fibroids, but I did have a few large ones growing on other parts of my uterus. My surgeon had originally planned to do an LAVH, which would have mandated removal of my cervix, citing a concern about future cervical fibroids, among other things. I successfully pushed for a supracervical approach, because my research indicated that it would be more appropriate for my individual situation, and to this date, I've never had any cervical fibroids. If your surgeon is recommending removal of your cervix because he's concerned about cervical fibroids, then I recommend that you do your research and seek out alternative opinions, so you can do whatever is best for your individual situation. Best wishes for whatever you decide!

I had a cervical fibroid that was 4cm Awhich ultimately needed to be removed by a D and c . Unfortunately during the surgery my bladder was punctured along with my uterus leading to major hemorrhaging ultimately ended up in an emergency hysterectomy. I would recommend doing research before doing anything about it, cervical fibroids are rare and I don’t think my doctor fully knew what he was getting into before operating.

Dmizrahi1 , thank you . Yea that is exactly what I’m worried about . Not many drs know how to remove them . I don’t want to trade one problem for two or three .

Which is sadly what happened to me. Do your research and find a specialist for cervical fibroids. Feel free to reach out privately. Wishing you luck!

Upcoming hysterectomy 2/23: Cervical fibroids

I had two large fibroids in my uterus. And it made my periods out of control. the cramps were horrible too. I had a hysterectomy, only have ovaries left. I have had trouble with cysts on my ovaries before and after my hysterectomy... I had my surgery about a year and half ago. I understand that fibroids can rub in families. My grandmother had them and ended up having a hysterectomy because of it.

Hope this information helps u. Feel free to ask me your f u have questions. Would be happy to try to help. Take care.

Hi! I just had my hysterectomy 3 weeks ago and one of my fibroids was 11cm and growing off the outside of my cervix (so it was kind of pushing it off to the side and taking up most of my pelvis). My surgeon specializes in minimally invasive surgery and was able to do my surgery robotically. She explained that the cervical fibroid made things trickier because of how much space it took up near my ureters. To be sure not to cause damage she said it required a lot of extra care to dissect around the ureters so they were completely visible while she removed the cervix. She was able to do it without causing any damage to my ureters or bladder.

I would ask specific questions about how your fibroids complicate the surgery, what the surgeon's plan is to mitigate risks, and how comfortable they are with the procedure.

Edit: OH! I just saw that your surgery was today. I hope it went well! Let us know.
