(Sonata) Radiofrequency ablation of uterine fibroids

I just had something called Sonata procedure in Stamford Hospital in CT. It is Radiofrequency ablation of uterine fibroids. This is NOT Uterine Ablation, it is FIBROID ablation. They are two very different things.

This is my third fibroid procedure in the past 10 years. I was told by several doctors in NY to have a hysterectomy because I am not pursuing having a child. This does NOT sit well with me. Hysterectomy for me is a last resort. I researched a lot and was willing to travel to outside of my state to find something better for myself. Traveling out of stat can be a hassle, as coordination can be difficult, but for me it was something I was willing to do, as it was only one state away from NY

I have had a Myomectomy and Fibroid Resection is the past.
The reason for my post, is to share alternatives.
There are two procedure that I investigated for ablation.
Acessa and Sonata.
The big difference is how the ablation device gets to the fibroids.
Sonata the instrument is transvaginal, meaning the instrument passes through your vaginal canal into the uterus., Acessa is laparoscopic and has incision in the abdomen.

I would highly recommend researching these procedures and discussing with a qualified professional before you do a hysterectomy.

I just had the Sonata procedure and am hoping for the best! The surgery was not bad at all. Just some cramping. I don’t want to advise or go into many details, as I am not a doctor. I can tell you I have read several published studies on both. They are on the web when you search either name, Acessa or Sontata, I would prefer each person do their research. I am willing to answer questions or talk to anyone that wanted to, but I would ask you read about from the papers online first.

I am also looking at the Sonata procedure at Stamford hospital. I'm 51 and still not in menopause but I have lots of fibroids and didn't want a hysterectomy either. I was looking into Acessa but then discovered Sonata and that seems even better. I'm mainly thinking of this due to a very heavy period (I was told my uterus is the size of a 5 month pregnant woman ) Would love to hear how you're feeling now and how long the recovery was for you.

I had UFE almost 10 years ago. Fibroid shrank significantly and heavy bleeding immediately resolved. I recommend alternative procedures as a stepping stone to manage problematic fibroids. Wishing you the best.

Recovery was very minimal, procedure very tolerable, blood loss decreased 1/3 but I had one fibroid that could not be treated due to location. Other people in my Facebook group have had tremendous amount of success.
