Side effects

TAH/BSO was 3 weeks ago. Dr started me on an estrogen patch day of surgery, and seemed to help. My skin was great, (cleared up actually), nails were growing like crazy, and emotions were level. At my 2 week post op, she added a progesterone pill at night. Took it the first night, and the following evening had a horrible migraine. Next morning migraine was gone, but it appeared that night again around the same time. Then it was hanging around longer. On top of this, I started to break out. Not little pimples, but great big sores. I have one just under my eye that is so swollen I can't see out of my eye. I look like I got in a fight. They are not hives, but after swelling so much my skin is peeling from being so tight, they start to ooze pus. It's nasty. And so painful. My face is just throbbing. I am glad I can't drive right now because I don't want anyone to see me like this! Oh and on top of that I am a bit emotional, crying at the DUMBEST things!

Is anyone else having these side effects? Are they going to go away or get better? I am going CRAZY!

Re: Side effects

Sorry to hear about the problems! I am still learning about all of this in anticipation of my surgery in a few weeks. Why did she add the extra pill if you were doing so well?!

Re: Side effects

Because of my age and the severity of my endo and disease, she wants me level with estrogen and progesterone. really hope my body adjusts to the progesterone......

Re: Side effects

Sounds like the progesterone kind of knocked your estrogen level down. You might have to have a bit more estrogen. If low estrogen symptoms continue and it doesn't get better, call your Dr. to let her know what's happening.

Re: Side effects

Agree with E2. I think it sounds like you need a little more estrogen to balance out the progesterone.

Also, you could see how she feels about you just taking the progesterone 12 days a month, like a normal cycle. I don't know if this is recommended to endo patients or they need a daily amount.

Re: Side effects

Maybe a lower dose of the progesterone would work better for you if your doctor is insistant on you using it due to the endo. I would not advise using it only 12 days out of the month. I think that may make things worse, not better as your body will not have a chance to adjust before things change again.

Re: Side effects

Yes dr wants me to stay level, as fluctuation can cause endo to grow again. I called and my dr is out this week. Waiting for someone to call me back. I haven't been able to open my left eye now for 5 days, and right is getting a cyst. My husband says I look like I got in a fight. My eye is purple from the swelling. It's ridiculous. I even took pain meds last night to help with the throbbing on my face. Glad I don't have to leave the house right now! Kids would run screaming.

Re: Side effects

I think you should stop the progesterone and call the doctor

Re: Side effects

Dr wants me in ASAP - thinks I'm having a severe reaction. So on my way.

Could be the peanut oil if you're using prometrium.
