Anyone else not like patches?

I have been on Evorel just short of a week now and it is my first experience of HRT having had TAH/BSO 20th November.

I hate them, all around the patch within 24 hours goes grey from the sticky stuff and makes me feel really dirty. Once off, the square residue takes forever to get off and I have just had to replace yet another following a shower due to it peeling off.

Anyone experienced the same and would I be in my right to ask the Dr to change them?

On top of this I have a memory of being 12 yrs old and my dad coming home from work feeling really ill. He said he's had a headache all day, felt achey and was breaking in hot sweats. He told my mother he was going to go for a shower and get into bed. We heard a shout from the shower and my dad followed out the door wrapped in a towel shouting my mothers name. When we went running to him we saw him holding one of my mother's HRT patches in his outstretched arm. It had detached itself from her through the night and had found my dad's back. All day he had oestrogen pumping through his skin. Although it was definately a LOL moment the memory has stayed with me forever

Re: Anyone else not like patches?

Do you clean your skin with alcohol before applying? If not, you might try that. It really helps. If you use lotions or oils on your skin, the patches don't adhere well. Do you apply them to your abdominal area or the hip/butt area? It seemed to me that when I used them on the abdominal area, I had a LOT of trouble keeping them on. The hip and butt seemed to keep them in place much better.

As far as the dark lint and stickiness left by the adhesive, it's gross for sure! Some sister have used the hand cleaner Goo Gone. Some use just alcohol and gauze. You have to get creative with that.

Your story about your dad was hilarious! I can absolutely picture it!! LOL!

Re: Anyone else not like patches?

Ha ha I know, it was hilarious and for weeks afterwards we would ask his opinion on lipstick shades etc! He was not impressed lol.

No I don't use creams or lotions and the last patch I placed was on my butt, the other 2 were on the tops of my thighs. I'll try wiping with alchohol guazes before I apply the next one and see what happens. So far the one on my butt is staying firm (unlike the butt - lol).

Thanks for your help x

I found baby oil took the goo off.

Re: Anyone else not like patches?

My nurse suggested a dusting of talc or corn starch after applying the patch to help prevent the ring around the patch. I loved the story about your dad too!

Red face - Anyone else not like patches? Re: Anyone else not like patches?

I have been using the patch for about a year and a half and do find it somewhat annoying, but it has really kept my hot flashes and night sweats under control. When applying I make sure my skin is really dry and lotion free. I use alcohol applied on a cotton ball and then apply. The hip and butt do seem to stay on better. I have a little trouble with it moving slightly or water getting under it when I shower when it's on my stomach. I just take the gray goo off with alcohol and a cotton ball. Hope this helps.
