Re: Should I call my doctor?

Hi airbornewife, I'm having the same hair loss you are. I discussed this with my hormone DR and she says that hair loss can be due to low testosterone level. Being a hair dresser and working for a major manufacturer of professional salon products, this topic is of much interest to me. I have done a lot of research on this and reportedly it isn't uncommon after surgery. The stress of surgery upsets the hair's natural life cycle, causing it to fall out before its time (which happens to be months after surgery!).

I have chosen to wait this out. In the meanwhile I'm taking a hair/skin vitapack daily and using a shampoo & treatment designed to help prolong hair's growth cycle. Though I doubt they are doing much, I truly think this just has to run its course, I do feel better that I've taken some action (and it can't hurt!). Should the hair loss not slow down in a few months I will revisit my hormone DR's suggestion of checking my testosterone level.

Hope this helps!

Re: Should I call my doctor?

If it will make you feel better then yes call your doc. You are not alone <3
Seems that trauma to our bodies causes this and my doc explained it could be 6 months maybe till it figured itself out. I had been hospitalized with my first Crohn's Disease flare & then 3 months later hair started falling out & breaking off. Well I am just over 3 months post op from my TLH (kept 1 ovary) and here we go again. Last time I ended up chopping my hair into a piecy cut since it was doing that itself! Not sure yet what I will do this time.

Re: Should I call my doctor?

I am just over one year after hysterectomy, I kept one ovary. My thyroid is going crazy and I have lost a lot of hair! Is it the thyroid or my surgery? I see my Endo is the next week!
