What nurse says my Dr denies, PLEASE HELP I'm struggling.

I'm back again discussing endo/adeno pain management. Aunt Flo is here and doing weird things. She ravaged me five days w/ light flow and now she's stopped. Still have the infection I got from the quick Gyn exam I had two weeks ago. And, Aunt Flo is taking a breather before she really kicks in - this I'm sure of. So, I didn't have pain meds last weekend (four days) and the Gyn called in something, per his nurse on Tues morn. because I had called Fri and Mon. I now have a one day's supply (4 pills out of 12) left of the Lortab. I know it's a holiday weekend and I wanted to have pain meds available if I needed them. And, I can only get them from my Gyn and no Dr on call can do it. Called the Gyn's office today and he's in the next city over at that office. He's off Fri/Mon. His triage nurse promised she'd call and ask him if I could have meds after she had already answered for him "he won't be filling any more pain meds for you." She just called me back and gave me the same speech she gave me two months ago "He Said, if you're needing that much narcotic, you need to go to the emergency room."

And, this is the same thing that happened two weeks ago with her. She Said the Dr was not going to help me anymore, that I had to go elsewhere, and He Said he NEVER said such a thing. Who do I believe? I can't speak to the Dr and he told me during the exam that when I called to speak to him personally. I'll be without pain meds for four days again. I just don't understand. I even explained to his triage nurse that I was exhausted with begging for pain meds, that I had made up my mind that after this period (I'm expecting another before surgery) that I wouldn't be asking for any more, no matter what. She said she understood that I was having a hard time. Heck!, the Dr said that, too. He said "I'm sure you're in pain. So speak with me directly." I have my DH as a witness. So why am I being treated this way? I told the Dr I was In The Toilet emotionally and physically. That I was having a hard time making it until surgery. I just don't understand why I feel like a criminal for wanting to be comfortable instead of in agony. And, why is this happening? What I am doing wrong?

If anyone has words of wisdom, it would be appreciated. I am on depression meds but this ordeal (months long) is taking its toll on my morale.

I am sorry that you are having to deal with all of this. Is there any way that you can talk to the dr directly? If you can't get any more pain pills and need them, go to the emergency room. There is no reason in being in pain if it can be helped. I hope you get some relief and answers soon. Carol

my first thought was that the dr was leaving the dirty work to the nurse, making her give you the bad news of no meds. but then you say he denied telling her that.
And i do understand the point that if there's a certain amount of pain after a certain amount of time, you need to have someone look at you instead of just taking more medication beyond the last rx...
when confronted with differing stories, the only way to know for sure is to discuss with all parties present so there's no he said/she said. of course, it's bound to be near impossible to achieve that, isn't it? but you can try to set up either an appointment or a conference call with both of them on the line to get a definitive answer here.

i completely understand how you feel hun! they know you are in pain, obviously there is something wrong or you wouldnt be having surgery!!!!! you dont need to be in pain, so whether that nurse likes it or not you should call and have him paged. tell her you need to speak to him personally and that he told you to get ahold of him not the nurse!

That is ashame your hurting so badly when there is no need for that. Being a medical assistant for a specialist, I would call the Dr. personally or make an appointment and tell him to get you scheduled sooner for your surgery. If they are not willing to help you with pain management then this is another solution. If you go to ER they will possibly admit you from there and get you in sooner for surgery too.
Sometimes it could even be other meds your taking and they are afraid to mix other meds with those for too long, or get you too dependant. Don't be afraid to speak up, but do it directly to the Doctor, possibly in person if you can. I have patients that walk in with no appointment and demand to speak to our Dr. and he will speak with them, so good luck. Hope your feeling better real soon!

I'm just going to send a hug because I too, am frustrated with the stupid medical institution at present.

Why are doctors and nurses seeming to be working AGAINST us? If we all staged a mutiny and refused to go to these knuckle-heads WE'D have the power again!!! But, alas, it is not possible. We need these people to make us well, but I wish they'd just DO IT ALREADY!!!

Sorry I don't have anything better to say Just know that you're not alone in your frustrations.

I know the feeling. I am hoping that Aunt Flo doesn't make another appearance before my 9/19 surgery. As of 8/29 I was told I couldnt take anything stronger than Extra Strength Tylenol. Aunt Flo decided she would visit the week before so I think i may be in luck.

Try this.. it worked for me. Call the Dr.s office after hours and you should get his service. The service will tell you they cannot connect you since you are not a dr. Insist that his nurse did not give you your pain meds script and that you need to speak to the dr. TELL the service to give the dr your number and if he is on the up and up, he will call you and you can discuss his horrid little nurse and get him to call you a script to your pharmacy. Good luck. You said the Dr will be at another office on Friday.. if this does not work, call that office on Friday.

CharmedOne, I think your idea is great and should work for Mammothtimes. She should definitely call tonight, though, so that if need be she has tomorrow to pursue it further. I also like Lora's idea to just show up at the Dr.'s office and ask to speak to him. At this point, you have nothing to lose.

I'm so sorry you have to go through all this nonsense just to get your rx. I hope some of the suggestions help you get the meds you need!

Okay, in defense of nurses and I know there are some awfulll ones out there, I had 2 in the hospital, but in defense of them and Medical Assistants, when you work for a Dr. you say and do as your told if you want to keep your job, seriously. I feel so badly when someone wants meds I cannot fill for them, but usually like I said, if someone is that sick they should be in ER and demand treatment. You have to be so proactive with your own medical care, it helps tremendously.
Good luck to you.
