22 days to go

I am having a da Vinci hysterectomy on March 7th. I have been having issues for a number of years. Options are very limited for me. Especially the HRT.... can't take estrogens as they cause blood clots in my lungs. Learned that the hard way in 2007. I did/do not want to live on pills to take care of Aunt Flo for the rest of our relationship. I think my uterus is acting up because it knows it is going to be thrown out with bathwater. I have been on and off crampy since the week after Thanksgiving. I am really looking forward to the other side.

Met the surgeon yesterday. I feel really comfortable with him. Liked him better then the first time I met the Dr. that recommended him. Some Dr.s just have a really good bedside manner.

Glad my friend recommended this site. I have been able to learn a lot about the type of surgery I am having.

Wishing all the rest of you sisters good outcomes and fast healing.

Re: 22 days to go

I am two weeks out and feel great. Drove in four days, did laundry, cooked, took walks, and was able to enjoy the time of work! Everybody is different, but don't listen to the negative drama. This surgery is a breeze. I did not have any pain after the first couple days, and that was only because I had bladder sling too. You will be fine. Piece of cake!

Re: 22 days to go

As 2eagle says, everyone is different. But, I would not say that this surgery is a breeze.

Recovery is different for everyone. It depends on your surgery type, what you have removed, if there are complications, etc. Recovery can take time, because no matter how they enter your tummy, you have internal healing to do. How you heal is how you heal. So, some women can be up in 1 to 2 weeks and be fine, some women take longer, some women take much longer. Neither is wrong, all are right. Just listen to your body and follow your doctors orders.

For me with a TAH BSO (different than your surgery), I was out of work for three weeks at a moderate stress desk job, and then went back part time for another four weeks and that was TOUGH, TOUGH, TOUGH. I could then go back full time, but no OT. It took me about 15 months before I felt 100%. That is not unusual.

You may want to review the pre-op page and the post-op page, including the check point videos. They provide good information.

Ask any questions you might have. We are here to help and support you.

Re: 22 days to go

Chilibeans it sounds like we are both in a similar boat. I am having my surgery on March 11th and also have issues with HRT due to clots in my lungs. My doctor will be putting me on Heparin for about a week after surgery as a precaution. Good luck I look forward to hearing how your surgery goes.
