P16 and p53 expression? I’m new

I received my endometrial biopsy results today and I’m confused by the patchy p16 and wild type p53 mentioned in the comments. What does it mean?

I suspect that this is something your doctor will need to explain to you. Have you contacted him or her? I looked at my endo biopsy results, and I don't see either one listed. Sorry - wish I could help. Best to avoid Dr. Google on this.

Re: P16 and p53 expression? I’m new

The P53 gene is the gene that protects cells from developing into cancer. It works in conjunction with P16 to control cell reproduction, cell life, and to rid the body of cells that have errors. Like you, my biopsy showed a different issue with P53. Lacking a biology background, I had to do a lot of research to understand what this finding meant. It is worth learning about P 53. If the P53 is not functioning correctly the P53 - wild type- can be helpful, How it works is complicated. You can ask your doctor to explain it, but they may not feel they have time to do this in an office visit. There are many research papers on this topic and some good YouTube lectures that can help you understand how P53 works and how it is used to diagnose and treat cancer.
