Coughing

Has any one done any damage coughing? I am 3 months post-op. Developed a nasty cough 10 days ago. Called Dr. office last Thursday as I also have some fever, I am soooo sore on the left side of my pelvic area. Tummy is swollen and feels hard on that side. I have a call in to dr. as I have finished the prescription they called in and still have the cough. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

COUGH

About three weeks after my TAH, I started with a cough which just got worse over time...up all night. Went to primary doc and they put me on antibiotics. Did the full round and ended up getting another round of antibiotics before the cough started to subside. They did give me cough medicine with coedine so it helped during the night. Maybe you need more medication.

Coughing

There are a number of virus's doing the rounds in both the US & UK, that are leaving people with a cough that hangs around for at least a month, it is horried and gives you a nsty tickle in the back of the throat that needs to be soothed or you cough even more.

My GP told me to take over the counter meds and give it a couple of weeks, if it hadn't gone by then to make an appointment for something stronger. (do talk to your Dr before you take anything from O/C incase they compromise any other meds you are on)

I have done damage in the past with coughing and this time it has been a real pain as it has hit the sore bits on my tummy. When at home I make sure I still use my tummy pillow to give me that added bit of support when I cough and this has seemed to lessen the discomfort.

Hope you get rid of it soon

Coughing

Hi Dixiet,

I have a bad cold that now feels like flu with joint aches. I'm coughing my head off and sneezing. My insides are so sore. TAH/BSO 9 weeks ago. I don't think I'm doing damage, and yet I have sharp pains around the vaginal cuff area and on my right side. I hold myself tight but and pull my legs in if I'm sitting, but I'm wore out now.

So glad this didn't happen on week 2, but even now it's the pitts! I guess damage would be pulling and tearing much like overdoing it when we were early in recovery.

I hope you get some relief. I'm hitting the Motrin bottle again.

Coughing

I had a cough just before surgery and even after. With drs. approval I had a cough med script that had codiene, which supresses the cough. While in the hosptial I had a bad coughing spell while lying on my back. I thought I blew out my stitches. The doctor as well as all the nurses said it would be hard to create internal damage from coughing. My suggestions from my recent expereince postop with coughing-- Bend forward into a pillow when you need to cough, get a script of cough syrup with codiene, try a little honey when you feel the need to cough, and you can , trust me on this, can change how you cough from higher in the rib cage. I figured that out as I was coughing and was trying to supress it.

Get better soon, Jeanne

Coughing

I had a cough three wks after surgery. It was painful and lasted a long time but there was no damage and I just used a cough medicine I had. I don't think that the cough does much damage other than making you sore. I still am sore and don't have a cough anymore.

Good luck and hope you feel better. My son has the cough and I have heard from others that this miserable cough is part of a virus going around.
